The moldy wood
of the staircase
g r o a n s like it's in pain
as I make my way upstairs
I wonder fleetingly if it feels my pain.
I wonder fleetingly if it's crying for me.
The dark hallway is empty,
the wallpaper flakes off
at the corners
and I feel like someone's
taken a dagger
and stabbed me in the stomach.
I feel cold and shiver
wrapping my jumper tighter,
I make my way to Aoi's room
where Zeira lies asleep
oblivious to the
a n g e r
that I feel.
"I'm really tired, Zee. I know it's not your fault. But I'm so lonely."
I whisper at her.
She sighs sleepily
and turns her back to me.
Hot tears
run their sore trail
down my pale cheeks."I miss my home."
Her face contorts
and she opens her tiny mouth
and she lets out a loud
d r a w n o u t
cry.
