behind the glass display.
Excitement brightening her eyes
as the cashier
hands over her dish.

Kiya hums happily
as she spoons off tiny bits off
of her strawberry and caramel
ice cream scoops.
The sun filters through
the parlor's windows
and glints off the surface
of the glass.
We'd gone to find something
cold to eat
after getting too hot
from playing in the park.
"I think I'll have....
candyfloss and blueberry."
"Sweet and sour,
nice choice!"
Mei laughs and starts digging into
her own ice cream -
mint and raspberry
with pecans sprinkled on top.
Fresh and sweet,
just like herself.
