I lay my head down on the laminated wood
Of my cold, small desk
As soon as the bell rings
Because my heart feels brittle
And my stomach feels like an ice box

I think about Zaina
I think about pilaf and cookies
And of tales told in pillow forts
I think about the perfume Aunt Eevie wears
I think about Miho's stripy shirts
And his Converse sneakers
The way he never really said much
But was always there with us

I lay there
And let my thoughts
