After my uneventfully silent lunch
I started to walk back to class
With my mostly untouched lunch
Gripped tight in my pale fistI didn't get far before I heard it:
The telltale sound of
Someone being pushed down
Of books scattering across
Mopped and polished
Laminate floors"Look at how disgusting she is"
"Her face is the color of sh*t"
"HEY ZIT FACE!"
I freeze as I turn the corner
And see Mei on the floor
On the brink of tears
Surrounded by four tall girls
All white skin and light eyes
In an otherwise empty hallThe fear fades into annoyance
And the annoyance morphs into
ExasperationI walk up to them
Taking deliberately loud steps
to catch their attention
And sneer"Pathetic."
