"Wow, so you're already eight?
You act really grown up,
masha allah!"
I tilt my head
and frown in confusion
Aunt Eeive chuckles,
"Sorry, that last part just slipped.
I'm so used to saying it."
"What does it mean?"
"I'll explain it later.
But for now, come help Zaina and I set the table."
I nod and follow her to the kitchen.
It's changed since she came
to take care of us
It's cleaner
and brighter
And every morning
before Suki, Zaina, Miho and I
head off to our seprate schools
it's filled with laughter
and the smell of toast.
Zaina grins at me
as I come into the kitchen
and hands me the spoons.
"We're having pilaf today!"
She squeals excitedly
"It's my favorite."
I realize that it's
quickly becoming
me and Suki's
favorite too
