PART ONE:
"You're also a brat Sukina,
you should butt your nose out
of our family problems!"
Suki stares at Orsai,
who had stomped up to her
and was fixing her with the fiercest glare
I had ever seen."Zeira is my sister too."
"Pft, yeah, only by a pathetic half."
"That's more of a half than yours,
she'd still be here if Aunty Aoi left."I gawk at Suki,
my heart hammering so fast
that I think I'll die sooner of fright
for my sister's life.Orsai goes red in the face
at Suki's bold words.
There's an almost ear-piercing silence,
even the kids don't say anything,
they stand waiting and I realizethey're wait for Orsai
to hit
Suki.
"Suki!"
I yell just as Orsai brings
up her fist.
PART TWO:
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!"
Her scream echoes around
the sleepy houses,
Suki ducks under her raised fist
and runs to hide behind me.I open my mouth to protest,
when I realize that,
in her rage,
Orsai was about to step on
Miria's sledge,"Orsai, watch out!"
My call goes unheard
and it's too late. She loses her footing and
the sledge starts shooting
down the driveway and onto
the open road.I sigh in relief when it stops
right in the middle,
because at least
she didn't hit the brick wall of the
house opposite.BEEEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEP!
It's like time slows down
and I want to yell at the unfairness
of how clocks seem to t r a i l along only
when you're desperately trying to act fast.
I don't reach her in time
to pull her away from the car.
The driver slams on the brakes,
tires squeal but slip against the iceand hits her with a loud BAM!
The impact sends her body
hurtling further down the road
and she hits the icy asphalt.CRACK!
