It's dark
It's dark
It's dark
my eyes snap open
My chest heaves
with every ragged breathand I gasp
because I'm alone
and the darkness creeps,
it slithers over the carpets,
spreads itself out on my walls
and threatens to overwhelm me.
My scream gets caught
in my dry throat
when my door creaks open
and I stare in horror
as a girl in a white gown stands there,
her black hair curtaining over her face.
"Harmony? Are you awake?"
A relived breath rushes
out of my chapped lips,
"Suki, you scared me half to death."
"I'm sorry, I couldn't sleep.
It's too quiet."
I strain my ears
and I don't hear Joeas crying
the floorboards don't creak
with Father's heavy footfalls
Doors don't slam
with Aoi's barely
constrained anger.
Zeira and Miria aren't hereand I can't hear them
We're alone.
Mother's probably asleep.I scoot over,
Suki lays down
and I throw my duvet
over both our heads.
"What're you doing Harmony?"
I feel sick.
"I miss them."
Suki blinks
then understanding
settles in her eyes,"I don't."
