Chapter 37

Nikki's POV

"What do you wanna do tomorrow?" I ask as we lay together in the Living room watching some movie on Lifetime. "We could do something that doesn't have to do with being here" he suggests. I look at him crazy "why?" I ask laughing "I just..think we should go out tomorrow" he says passing it off. I shrug "sure" I rest my head on his shoulder. We weren't watching the movie long when I heard "psst" I turn around and see it's Bree in the hallway, pulling her hand back forth telling me to come see. "Be right back" I say packing Chases lips and walking off to Bree.

"What ya need?" I ask as she smiles "ok so, we're planning a surprise party for Chase tomorrow" she informs exciting as she jumps up and down with joy "Chase? Why?" I ask confused. Did he win something? "It's his birthday tomorrow didn't he tell you?" My jaw dropped. No he didn't tell me! It's Chases 17th birthday and he didn't tell me! That must be why he didn't wanna be here tomorrow. Now I'm frustrated he didn't tell me earlier so I could've got his present! Now I gotta figure that out. What do you get a kid who loves science and technology and his dad owns every piece ever known. "No he didn't tell me" I answer. She nods like she expected it "he's not into his birthday. He doesn't like making it a big deal. But since now he has you, I thought we could throw his party" she explains "yeah a party sounds great!" I cheer. "Great! I'll text you and we can sort it out" she says running off to plan. I smile and go back to Chase. I take my position cuddled into him with his arms around me lovingly. "What was that about?" He asks "oh nothing. Is there something going on tomorrow I should know about?" I ask looking up at him as he looks at me but doesn't look at me in the eyes "no" he says looking in between my eyes trying to look like he's not lying. "Bree just told me it's your birthday tomorrow" I inform him as he sighs "I was hoping she'd keep her mouth close" I sit up with his arms still holding me "what did you think Chase? One day all of a sudden I hear your 17 and then what? I hear I missed your birthday?" I question scolding him. He sighs and pulls me back into him so my heads rested on his chest "I'm just not into celebrating my birthday. I don't see the point in celebrating" he shrugs rubbing circles with his thumb on the back of my hand. "It's fun. The day is about you,what's better?" I ask as he kisses my head "I don't need a day about me. Spending everyday with you is better" I smile. How sweet? But we're still throwing the party. I scoot up and peck his lips "I'm tired, I think I'm gonna head to bed" I say getting up I say heading to my room so I could text Bree with plans. This party will go great!

Chase POV

Of course Bree told Nikki. What's the point in birthdays? Why all of a sudden are they bringing it up? Usually they just wish me a happy birthday, I say thanks, and we keep on with our day. No presents,no parties,and no celebrations. Sure my birthdays ok, I just don't want people making a deal out of it. I rather just spend tomorrow doing stuff with Nikki.

I turn off the movie and head down to my capsule. I usually sleep with Nikki but somehow I think she'll do something to try and get me joyed about my birthday. I take out my phone and send her a quick text

Night beautiful :)

A few seconds later she replies

Night, love you :)

Love you too

I put up my phone with a smile on my face. I could sleep better knowing I had her replying I love you.

Nikki's POV

As soon as I woke up I sprung out of bed to greet Chase. I would cook him breakfast but I really can't cook. I set water on fire I'm that bad. I take the elevator down to the lab. I leaned against the wall with a smile as I felt the cold metal on my back. I thought of how I love being here for Chases birthday. When the doors opened I walked out and saw Chase working on something on the panel. His back was to me so I slowly crept up behind him and right when I was gonna wrap my arms around his torso I heard Eddie shout "Chase Nikki's behind you!" Making me jump and Chase turn to see me. I looked at the little pest on the monitor "Eddie! I was trying to surprise him!" I scold "well maybe you should do it quicker. The suspense was killing me" he answers with while turning off the screen. I growled and put on a smile and turning to Chase "Happy Birthday!" I cheer hugging him. He wraps his arms around me "thanks" he says pecking my lips. "So what does the birthday boy wanna do today?" I ask moving my hands to his biceps. "I don't want any special treatment. Let's just go to the park or something" he suggests as I sigh and nod. Why can't he just milk his day? "Nikki are you feeling ok?" He asks putting his hand on my forehead. "Yeah I'm fine why?" I ask as he withdraws his hand. "Your freezing" I don't feel cold. The fan must've been on high last night or something. "I'm fine. I must've just been cold last night" I shrug. "Are you sure?" He asks looking concerned "yes! Now let's go eat" I saw pecking his lips trying to get him not to worry about me. We walk hand and hand to the elevator. I pressed the button while Chase slipped a heavy kiss on my lips. We kissed until the elevators steel doors opened. As the kiss deepened Chase moved his hand to my waist. I expected warmth from his hand but instead I got burning hot heat. "Ow" I wimpered pulling back. "what? What's wrong?" Chase asked concerned "something burnt me" I said putting my hand over the burning area. I lifted my shirt to see where it burnt me and I see a pink hand print on my waist where Chases hand was. Chase sees and looks at his hand "I did that?" He asks and I pull my shirt back down "this is nothing. We're probably just acting up or something" I shrug as the doors to elevator opens. When it does I see a sheet of ice crystals on the wall where I was leant on coming in. "Ok, something happening" Chase says stepping back "were fine. Our apps must be acting up" I say pulling him into the elevator. Chase looks at his hand then the sheet of ice as the doors close. He lightly puts his finger on the ice and the whole sheet comes down in water. "We're fine" I suggest and hold his hand. I didn't feel anything except his body warmth but I felt a little off when steam was coming from from our entwined hands. "I can say I've never steamed before" Chase jokes "me too" I reply.

When we got to the floor we were surprised by shouts of surprise and the whole place decorated. It made Chase and I jump. "Well, didn't expect that" I say while putting my hand over my heart. As I talked I saw my breathe in cold white air "me neither" Chase says with his hand suddenly burning my flesh. "Ow" I say taking my hand from his. "This is great" I cheer hurrying to change the subject. Chase was hot as fire and I was cold as ice. Something made me suspicious when he was suddenly hot like I was when I was fighting with him. But Chase wasn't mad. Why am I cold? I'm not sad. I'm confused "thanks" Bree says pulling me by the arm into the living room "what's with the party?" Chase asks smiling "it's your birthday, surprise!" Adam cheers. "Woah, Nikki your freezing cold" "I'm fine" I say honestly not feeling any coldness in my body. "Chase loves it, I can see it in his tiny doll eyes" Adam says putting a hand on Chases shoulder "ow!" He shouts withdrawing his hand. "What?" Chase asks frantic "you burnt me!" He says blowing on his hand to soothe the pain. "I didn't" he says denying it and walking beside me. I put my hands to his chest and he wraps his arms around my waist "you guys are literally steaming" Bree said with her eyes getting big. "I'll get Davenport" Bree says running off to get him as Adam follows. "What did we do?" I ask "I'm not sure but something's wrong" Chase says pointing out the obvious "I was literally a hot head during our last fight. And now I'm freezing and your the hot head" I point out "it doesn't make sense"

I say shaking my head "I'm scared" I say burying my head in Chases chest. He kisses my head "were ok" he says soothing me. "Great I ruined your birthday" I sigh "you didn't ruin it. Your here, made it better then anything" he says with a smile. I lean in and peck his lips.

I hear Davenport shout "what's wrong?" He asks frantically. Chase and I jump back at his sudden anxiousness. "Nikki's cold and Chase is hot" Bree explains. Davenport walks forward, standing in front of us. He lightly feels my skin and shivers. Then goes for Chases skin and draws in a sharp breathe. "You guys don't hurt each other?" He asks. "Well I got a burn mark from Chase. But not at the moment, we make steam" I explain "you guys are balancing each other out. I can tell from your faces that Nikki's emotion of anxiousness is making her cold. Chases emotion of happy/ dread for his birthday is making him hot. I thought this would just be with Nikki but it seems Chases unlocked this too" he explains. "It's trying to settle in. It may take a while but you two have to try. It should be gone in a few minutes. It's a temporary neusence you'll be able to control it after" he explains. "Wait, so how were feeling is what's triggering it?" I ask "yep. Like how you were mad and it set you on fire" he says using an example "ok" I say nodding. "Just cool down and everything will go back to normal" he says leaving.

I sit on the couch with ice crystals forming on the strings of the fabric with my touch. I hide my face in my hands "this is not how I planned to spend your birthday. The first one I spend with you and it's ruined" I sigh. I feel the couch crease with weight on my left. "You didn't ruin my birthday. We were both under our bionics. Our tempature is just unusual" he says trying to comfort me. He pulls me to him so my heads rested on his shoulder. He pets my long blonde hair slowly "when were back to normal we can go do something" he pinches my chin so I'm staring into his beautiful eyes "just you and me" he says then pecking my lips. I smile "ok"

How he still manages to send chills down my spine everytime he looks at me is beyond me. I love him to the sun and back. "What did you want for your birthday?" I ask curiously "i mean I didn't mean for this to be such a late question but I didn't know what you wanted" he chuckles and stands up while taking my hand to bring me up too. He walks me over to a full length mirror in my room. He stands me in front of it. What's he doing? He comes behind me and wraps his arms around my waist while resting his head on my shoulder. "You" he answers with a smile "what?" I ask looking at him questionably from the mirror "you, I don't want anything for my birthday but you. You take my breathe away everyday. I didn't think I could fall harder for anyone that I see every day but when I met you, you changed it" his sweet words were bringing tears to the brim of my eyes "I'm happy as ever to call you my girlfriend. I've risked my life to save yours. And I would do it all over again in a heart beat if it meant I get to keep you" he says bring a smile to face. I turn so I'm facing him. I lean in and thank him with a passionate kiss. Chase was my other piece. He's what makes me whole and I wouldn't change it for the world
