A/N: hi guys! Sorry I haven't been posting as regularly as I was. I think I'm going to try and post chapters every 3 days, cause everyday get's a little complicated with all of my school stuff starting up now. So anyways, back to the story.
Countdown till Onikage takes over: 4 days.
I was getting nervous. I only had a few days left until Onikage would control me. I really don't want to risk hurting Serena so he didn't take over me, but I don't want to hurt anyone if I don't tell Bonnie and Clemont. It was the middle of the night and I was laying on my side, looking at the trees, using my arm as a pillow. It was sorta numb from the pressure of my head, but the pillow under it was cool, so it didn't bother me. I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if I left my friends to protect them. Serena would probably have a panic attack trying to To find me, and Clemont and Bonnie would follow her till they found me. Yeah, that sounded accurate. I slowly closed my eyes as Onikage's familiar red eyes were glowing into mine.
I jumped back because he kinda surprised me; he normally was waiting a decent distance from me. How'd he know exactly where I'd wind up?
And one other thing; "Why are you on top of me?!"
"Actually, I tripped over my foot walking around and I landed on you." Made enough sense I guess.
"okay? Anyway, what do you wanna tell me? You look like you're going to burst at the seam." I laugh. It was true; he looked like he was dying to tell me something.
"Oh, right. So!" He clapped his hands together. "My brother showed up after you woke up the other day, and-"
"wait, wait, wait. You have a brother?! What's he like number one, and number two, why did you never tell me you had a brother?!" I practically yell. "He's awesome; like, the king of awesome, and you never asked." He made a fair point. "Yeah, that's true. So, what else?"
"He told me that he overheard the Dead talking abo- Demonic Enhancers Department is Dead. Inside joke." He must've seen the confused look on my face when he said dead.
"Okay, continue." His eyes were lighting up.
"There's a way for demons to become human again!"
"Wait, really?" I was starting to get why he was so excited. "That's amazing! So how do you do it?" His face went from insanely excited to a face that looked like he thought he was an idiot.
"GAH! I'm an idiot!" Yup, that's the face. He smacked his hand against his forehead.
"What?"
"I never asked him how to get our souls back before he left!" Wow. That made sense why he was saying he was an idiot.
"Well, can't you just call him or something?" He looked confused. It was like he'd never heard that word before. Wait a minute, I just realized something. Something important. "Onikage, how old are you?" He gave me a puzzled look, then went to serious. "I honestly have no clue. I know that I died some point around your age, but I have no idea how long ago it was." I was sorta dumbfounded. How could he not know how old he was?
"Okay, umm... oh! Maybe if you say some words that people would normally say when you were alive, I could figure out how long it's been!" I say.
"That's actually not a bad idea. Okay, umm..." he snaps his fingers to try and jog his memory like I do sometimes.
"Got it! Okay, tuff." "Tough? Like the tough guy? You gotta give me something better than that."
"Not tough. Tuff. T u f f. Ring a bell?" I try to think of what book I remembered that word in.
"Okay, that word was most popular somewhere in between the 50's and the 70's. Gimme something else."
"Okay, well, a lot of my brothers friends said things like radical, slick, and they called a fight a rumble." That's what it was! Those words were from a book called the Outsiders, my mom's favorite book when she was younger. That book was made in 1960-something, but I can't remember the specific year.
"Okay, I'm getting a good guess, but I need a few more." Onikage wracked his memory, I could tell by his face, and finally came up with a few more words. "Okay, outta sight, fab, righteous, and we had 'hood names like Greasers, Socs, and the Fuzz. Got anything?" I thought for a good few minutes and figured it out.
"1964... That's the year you died." He looked stunned. I was too. He looked and sounded much younger, modern than, what, 52 years old?
"Well, then, why do I look so much like you; so modern?" I didn't know, but... "I think I might have a theory. Maybe whoever your host is, you look more of their age and whatever time they're in." Onikage wasn't responding. I looked down from the sky and saw that his eyes were larger than normal. Did I say something wrong? I stared straight at his face and said, "like I said, just a theory." I took notice that Onikage wasn't fully paying attention. He was staring at my hands, so I looked down from his face. I'd been doing something weird with my hands and I was trying to make it stop, but I couldn't. It was like they were moving on their own. They were making this weird triangle symbol over and over again in between them trembling. "Uh, Onikage? What's wrong with my hands?" He was still staring at my hands.
"Th-that's the D-Dead's symbol. W-well, a p-part of it." His voice was shaking... he was scared. I've never seen him like this. If he was scared, then that must've meant that the Dead is worse than their name sounds.
"Th-their symbol I-is the Illuminati in f-front of fire. B-but someone's hands don't form it, unless..." he stared at me with a horrified look on his face as a circle of fire burst to life around us. "What's happening?!" I scream as the smoke filled my lungs, causing me to choke on my breath. "This only happens on two occasions, one if the Dead Council is really mad, which I don't think they are, or two..." his voice faded until he yelled out, "Ash! We have to run through it!" Even for a demon, he can come up with some really deadly stunts, and I should know!
"Are you insane?!"
"Kinda!"
"If we run through this big of a fire, we'll die!" I yell back.
"It's our only shot! On my mark. One..." we get into a running position. "Two..." I felt the smoke burning in my chest...
"Three!" We sprinted and ducked as we leaped through the flames. We landed with a thud and rolled onto our sides. Onikage got up faster than I did. I wanted to get up, but my body was in some sort of paralyzed position from the landing. "Ash!" Onikage came to a skidding halt at my side, but his knee jabbed into my spine and I yelped in pain. "Sorry! sorry!" He turned me over so I could face him. I could feel the sky and ground fading away, but the fire remained there. Was I waking up? No, if I was, then the pain would be gone by now, yet I was just getting the feeling of my body back. By the time I'd gotten all my strength back except for in my legs, the only things left were me, Onikage, and the fire. Onikage was this close to throwing me onto his back so we could get away from the heat until something put out the fire. Well, someone, more like. He looked tall, he had tanned skin, dirty brown hair, and bold green eyes, like if your looking at Greek fire or something. His eyes were glowing, and he had a crooked smile on his face.
"Come on, Kage. What did I tell you when we were alive?" Onikage smirked.
"Never have the fun unless you're there." The teen's crooked grin became a full on smile.
"Yet here we are." He threw his arms out as he slowly walked towards us. "I always knew my little bro had a little bit of rule breaking in 'im. Told the old man from the day you first forgot your homework." He tussled Onikage's hair. I looked at them in confusion. Who the heck is this guy? Onikage must've taken the hint.
"Oh. Right, duh. Introductions. Uh, Kyle, this is Ash, my host. Ash..." he signaled to Kyle, " this is Kyle. My brother, and the King of Awesome."
So I finally met the king.
