A/N: I've never done Kyle's PoV before, so I figured that for the 80th chapter, I'd try it out. Enjoy, Y'all!
I walked down the hall back to Ash's room. I don't know what's wrong with Onikage. He's never acted like this before. Not even when he found out his crush had a jerky boyfriend... WELP! That's a story for 'nother tim'! Anywho, I get down to Ash's room, and Ash is sitting on the side of his bed, looking pretty darn weak. His face was beaded with sweat, his cheeks were red and his skin was pale. Come to think of it, Ash's been paler than normal ever since Yān left possession of him. His skin's gone from tanned to a little fair, and he's been out in the sun one heck of a lot lately.
"Yo, Ash. How you feelin'?" I ask when I walk in. He looks up at me. His eyes show pain, and not like sorrow-y pain, but like, physical pain. He looked like he just got socked in the gut and got sliced on the back. Sliced on the back...
"U-uhh, n-not s-s-so good..." he stuttered. I could tell Red and Serena were realizing it, too, so I cleared my throat and said,
"Okay, how's bout y'all get on to supper, an' Serena, Red and I'll keep an eye on Ash for a bit." Everyone agreed, though I could tell by their expressions they didn't want to leave. After they all left and we knew they were out of hearing range, I could tell that me, Serena, and Red let out one of them mental sighs while Ash grunted and shut his eyes. He let out his breath, but he allowed himself to be more visibly in pain than he was when the others were here. His expression made it look like he was tearing up, but he was holding it back. I crouched down in front of Ash and looked him in the eyes. I could see sliver of blood red glistening in his eyes. His inner thoughts were as clear as day; he was fighting himself in a battle he could only hope to win, but he keeps fighting. How can he do it? He's gone through so much, yet he keeps a smile on his face. How does he do it?
"Umm, can I cut in?" Red says. I look up at him and I could tell he needed to do something. I got up and let him trough. He sat in front of Ash and asked him, "Dokoga ichi ban wo tòng i. Anatano shāng ga sai bi?" I don't know why, but I could translate that from Japanese, when I've never heard it before. Red had said, "Where does it hurt the most. Your wounds are once again?" Ash just nodded in response; he was in too much pain to speak. Red got up and went behind Ash, glancing at me and Serena before saying,
"Not a word about this to anyone." Serena and I exchanged glances as Red placed his hands on Ash's scar. Ash gasped for air as he did so, clutching the edge of the bed harder. I was about to grab his wrists and snap 'em backwards, but I realized his hands were glowing. A gold light was faintly glowing from under Red's hands, and as I looked at Ash, I realized the pain was slowly leaving his eyes. Serena was shocked, and so was I. How the heck was this kid doin' that?! After a minute or two of silence, the glow left Red's hands, and the cousins both let out a sigh of relief. Red looked a little tired, but Ash was on the brink of passing out again. Red breathed heavily as he said,
"Wow. *huff* I guess it *huff* really has been *huff* a while, *huh*? *sighs* when's the last time you properly took care of that, Ash?" Ash didn't respond. He looked so tired, and I could tell he was loosing his balance.
"L-last t-t-time..." he stuttered. Red's eyes widened.
"Ash, that was four years ago! You can't honestly be telling me you haven't gotten that taken care of since-"
Ash cut him off by nodding, then Serena broke in.
"What. Just. Happened?!" Red looked down at Ash, who still wasn't responding to anything, and let out a sigh.
"Alright, but like I said, not a word about this to anyone." He signaled for us to sit, do me and Serena took two of the seats in the room, and he took another one and pulled it in front of us.
"So, that thing you just saw? It's called Aura of Healing Hands. It gives the possessor the ability to heal any living creature using an aura. However, it comes with some risks..."
He looked at Ash, who had his head down and his eyes shut.
"What sort of risks?" I ask. He turned back to me and Serena.
"If I use it too often, it'll do some minor damage to myself. And if I do it to someone who is dying, then it puts me in risks of suffering half that pain." He looked us in the eyes and smiled. "It's a born gift, so not many people get it. It's this thing when you're born with," he pulled off his jacket and pulled the neck of his shirt down to reveal a burn in the shape of a leaf. It looked like it'd been there for a long time. He let go of his collar and put his jacket back on hurriedly, as if he didn't want anyone to see it other than us.
"How were you born with a burn?" Serena asked. He looked at her like she was crazy.
"Oh, no. I wasn't naturally born with this."
"But you just said-"
"I said you were born with a thing. I never said what. You need to have a certain blood type that's extremely rare. It's called AH+. It's an acronym for All Healing, and it's once in a blue moon that someone has it."
"And you do." I said.
"Right," he finished. "There's nothing that can be done about it, but the blood type is able to fight off all illnesses, so it has it's perks..."
"But?" Serena asked. He gave her a meaningful gaze.
"But it comes with a price." He looked back at Ash again, and closed his eyes.
"Depending on how much I use it and how often, the ability reverses itself temporarily. I learned that the hard way..." he looked at us again. "It was when we were younger, a little while after I first started getting control over my ability and Ash's Sixth Birthday. I went to visit Ash in the hospital everyday and tried to heal him with my power. It wouldn't always work, but even so, I still used it too much, and one day, about a week after the incident, I went to go heal Ash again, but instead, I wound up giving him a fever on top of the pain of the cut. That's when I realized the limitations of the Aura of Healing Hands, and I made sure I never overused it again." He sighed. I looked at him. This kid must've been through so much because of his powers. I could only imagine how bad that must've been...
"Red, I-" I was about to say I didn't want him to continue if it was bringing up bad memories- trust me, those suck- but suddenly, we heard a soft thud behind Red. We looked and Ash was lifting himself weakly off the floor. "Ash!" We all got up to help him.
He shook us off.
"I'm fine. I j-just lost my balance, 's all." He sounded annoyed. I helped him get back into the bed, and even though he didn't want it, he let me. He sat on the bed and didn't make any eye contact with us.
"Ash?" Serena asked.
"What?" Ash asked sternly. He sounded different... like his voice changed somehow. Serena backed off a little.
"N-never mind." Onikage then knocked at the door.
"Yo, guys. Everyone's waiting up for you. Hurry your butts up." I groaned and rolled my eyes.
"Five seconds, dad." Serena and Red laughed at that one.
"Oh, shut up, socket-kisser." That was the one that got Ash to laugh a little.
"THAT WAS WHEN I WAS FIVE! Arceus, am I EVER gonna live that one down?!" When I was five, I thought the electric socket was an actual face and I kissed one of them... yeah, if that doesn't explain it, i don't know what will. Anywho, Onikage snickered from the other side of the door, and I heard him walk away. I sighed and said,
"Ash? You wanna come?" He looked at me, then shook his head.
"Suit yourself. I'm getting my food on!" I turned to the door, with Serena and Red not too far behind. I opened the door and Onikage jump-scared me. I yelped, but my voice didn't go high - it never does, never will - and yelled,
"ONIKAGE!!! YOU'RE DEAD MEAT!!!" As I chased the dork down the hall, I could hear Ash, Red, and Serena laughing their heads off behind us. I was happy about two things; one, Onikage was back to himself, and two, Ash was smiling again.
