"If you need one of us you'll have to call your mom. I'm shutting my phone off." Julian tells Sam over the phone. "We'll be fine Dad. Go do whatever you and Mom are doing." she says. "I'll talk to you later. I love you Sam." he tells her. He hangs up and gets in the car. "Don't be nervous. I'm sure she'll be thrilled to meet you." Alexis assures him. "What is she did abandon me?" he worries. "What if she wanted nothing to do with me?"
"Than we turn around and go back to our hotel room and I will make you forget everything." she promises, putting her hand on his upper leg. "Maybe you should do that now." he suggests. "And distract the driver? I don't think so." she teases. He gives her a disappointed look. "Later. We have till six till they're done at the park. Pull the car over, on the way back, I can make it worth the wait." she says. "Hmm, deal." he says.
2:19 p.m.
Alexis gets out of the car and waits for Julian. He sits in the seat and looks at his hands. His nerves had been building since they got in the car and he froze once he saw the building. Alexis goes to his side of the car and opens the door slowly. She puts her hand on his shoulder. "You can't back out now." she tells him. Her voice breaks his trance. He looks at her and smiles.Julian sits on one of the couches and taps his foot nervously and spins his ring. Alexis kisses his cheek. "Don't be so nervous. Remember, you're Derek Wells, you're writing a book about Victor Jerome." she reminds him of the story they came up with. "And you're Alexis Wells, my partner in writing and in life, you're also the brains of the operation." he says. "As in real life." she laughs. "Yeah, that's true." he agrees.
He looks at the door and back at Alexis. She taps his arm. "Julian, she's here." she tells him. He looks over. She was smaller than he'd expected, with light gray hair tied up into a bun. She's in a wheelchair with a pink blanket over her legs. He keeps his eyes on her as she's wheeled closer. He reaches out and shakes her hand, keeping it lightly in his own. "You must be Derek." she says. "That's me." he squeaks. "And who is this lovely woman?"
"My wife Alexis. She's, uh, writing the book with me." he says. "It's so nice to meet you Ms. Summers." she says. "And you Mrs. Wells." she replies. Julian stares at her, not saying anything. "You wanted to ask me some questions about Victor." she reminds him. "Yeah, yeah I did. I do." he stutters. "Are you alright dear?" she asks. "Yes." he answers. He hesitates again. "How did you know him? Victor that is."
"Oh, I loved him. It was early 1958. I loved his house and he loved my body. It was perfect for both of us. After a while, we started talking, and it was love. Or I thought it was. He never loved me back, but it was okay, because he took care of me. Until he kicked me out. I don't think I've gotten over it yet." she tells him. "H-how would you describe your relationship with him?" he follows up. "Fun, free, very open. It wasn't loving, he was rough. Very rough. Oh and he could be mean. But I loved him anyways. I don't know why, but I did."
"Did you want more? To get married, start a life, have kids?" he asks. "I did. More than anything at one point. I'd hoped he ask me to run away with him, love him forever. I knew he wouldn't." she says. "What about kids? Did you want them?" he asks desperately. "I did. I wanted a family with him. I almost had one too. When he kicked me out, I was already expecting. Not that I knew. When I found out, I told him, expecting him to take me back, help me raise our child. He paid me, a lot of money, forget I ever meet him."
"What about the baby?" he asks. "Victor said he would raise our baby with anything and everything they needed." she says. "Did he?" he asks. "I don't know. You see, we didn't have a baby, we had two. Twins, but that's all I know. I don't know if I have two sons, or a son and a daughter." she tells him. "The first one born, the older one, they weren't crying, I don't know if they lived." she says. Alexis looks at Julian, he'd mentioned being the older one. "Which one are you?" she asks. "What do you mean?"
"Are you the older one or the younger one?" she clears up. "How did you know?" he asks. "How long did you think it would take me to recognize one of the babies I carried inside for nine months?" she asks. He laughs and wipes a tear. "So which one are you?"
"I'm the older one." he tells her. "Oh thank god. My beautiful baby survived." she cries. She touches his face, bringing her hands to the back and kissing his forehead. "You're so handsome." she says. "Derek, oh my Derek." she says. "My name's not Derek. Its Julian. Julian Jerome." he tells her. "Julian, it's a good name. I like it." she says. "Brother or sister?" she asks. "Brother, Stevie." he tells her. "What's he like?" she asks him. He freezes.
He thinks about his brother. "What was he like. He died." he tells her. She covers her mouth. "How did he die?" she asks. "Its not important." he tells her. "Don't you lie to your mother. You tell me how my son died." she demands. "He killed himself." he tells her. "Why?" she asks. "I want the full story." she says.
"Stevie was gay. When Dad found out, he erased him from the family. Stevie had to start over. He needed clothes, and food, and an apartment. He needed money. He took a job as a bartender at a strip club. He ended up becoming a dancer there. He was always so tired cause he went to school all day and danced all night. He was constantly exhausted and couldn't get any sleep. So he started smoking pot to calm down. He was a total pothead. He was too relaxed so he could do cocaine before his shift. That lead to heroin." he tells her.
"He meet a man, Arthur, who tried and failed to get him clean. Arthur was so sweet, gentle, submissive. Artie wanted to be used, and Stevie wanted to use him. Stevie also wanted to be abused. Arthur couldn't do that. So Stevie went and found someone who would. His name is Hunter. He used to hit Stevie and use him whenever he wanted. When Stevie tried to end it, Hunter, Hunter, he he," Julian puts his hands on the back of his head and takes a deep breath. "Hunter raped him." Alexis butts in, seeing its too much for Julian.
"He beat him within an inch of his life and left him for dead. Stevie survived but had HIV, which he infected Arthur with." she explains. "He was so broken. He couldn't go on. One day while Arthur and I were out, he was working I was doing whatever it was I was doing, he shot up. He meant to kill himself. He left a note for Arthur and one for me. He was a ray of sunshine." Julian tells her. "My poor baby." she says. "He would've loved to meet you. He wanted to know you."
"What are you like?" she asks. "He's amazing. He can be so kind and gentle and loving and caring. He's strong, and he's got such a big heart. He's a good man." Alexis cuts in. "Are you really his wife?" she asks. "I am. We got married in February. He gave me a beautiful wedding and protected me and my daughters. He's done the impossible for our family." she says. "Do you have kids Julian?" she asks. "I do. I have five." he says.
"My oldest, my daughter Sam, with Alexis. My older son Lucas, he's a doctor. Jodie my other daughter, she's sixteen, I just got her back. Leo, my little man. He turned one in May." he says proudly, pulling out his phone to show her a picture of all four of them. "They're all so beautiful." she comments. "I love them so much." he says. "You said five. Did something happen to one of them?" she asks. "They're still on the way." he says.
Alexis puts her hand on her stomach and smiles. He looks over at her. "Oh, how far along are you?" she asks. "I just entered my second trimester." Alexis tells her. "I have five grandchildren." she says. "A great-grandson too. His name is Danny. He's Sam's son. She's having another. A girl, they're gonna name her Emily." he tells her. "Here I have a picture of Danny." he shows her his phone. "That's Danny in the middle. Next to him, his half brother Jake, and the man's their father, Jason. The two girls are my step-daughters, Kristina and Molly."
"You have such a perfect family." she admires. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you. My little boy." she cups his cheeks. "It's not your fault. He didn't give you much of a choice. I lost my Jodie and my Leo. I didn't have a choice with them. I have them back now. Just like you have me." she wipes his cheeks. They spend more time getting to know each other. Alexis wonders off, giving them a chance to talk to each other for the first time, just them. They spend more than an hour just talking.
"I wanna meet my grandchildren." she says once Julian says they have to leave. "I'll talk to Sam and Jo. Lucas is still back in Port Charles and Leo goes where I bring him. I'm gonna tell them about you tonight. I'll come see you again before we leave. If they want to, I'll bring them." he tells her. "Goodbye son." she kisses his forehead. "Goodbye Mom." he says, it hits him that he's never said that before. "Goodnight Ms. Summers." Alexis says. Margret gives Alexis' hand a quick goodbye squeeze.5:49 p.m.
"She's the cutest little old woman." Alexis says. "She's my mom. I have a mother. I meet my mother." he says. "My mother's name is Margret. She likes to sit outside in the sun and read classics. She never had any other kids because she couldn't bare to raise them and not me and my brother. She was a fourth grade teacher for forty three years. She's practically a saint." he says. "She's wonderful." Alexis agrees.6:27 p.m.
"There's my parents, both looking very happy." Sam says. "Okay, this is weird. You have something to say. What is it?" Sam asks. "I meet my mother today." Julian tells her. Her jaw drops. "That's great. Dad, I'm so happy for you." she tells him, hugging him tightly. "I've wanted this for so long." he says. "Wanted what?" Jo asks. "I finally meet my mother." he says. She smiles. "That's so cool." she says. "It is. I was hoping one day we could all go back so you guys could meet her and I could say goodbye."
"I'd love to meet her. I wanna tell her how you saved my son." Sam says. "I wanna tell her you saved me." Jo says. "I feel bad, Lucas isn't here." he says. "What if we told you Lucas was getting on a flight down here first thing tomorrow morning, with Brad, and Molly and Kristina?"I couldn't leave them out anymore. I'm saying this again, no where does any canon history mention anything about mama Jerome, so I made one. I'm not gonna be adding too many more new characters and most of them won't even play big parts. There's one more important one yet to be introduced in the not too distant future but the rest are just space fillers. Alan Harper (the doctor) only exists cause I don't know who the canon doctor is.
