Alan stands and runs to the E.R. to respond to the page he'd gotten. "Dr. Harper, patient was moved to room seven." a nurse tells him. "What happened?" he asks, her following him. "She went out to get groceries and got rear ended into a tree. Went into early labor." she tells him. "Any injuries I should know about?" he asks. "I don't know." she says. "Fantastic." He growls, opening the door to the exam room. "Just the doctor!" Jenny screams. A nurse does to talk. "Go." Alan tells them. "Dr. Harper." one starts. "Get out."
As the nurses file out, Tom walks in. "I'm sorry you have to go." Alan says. "He's my brother." Jenny hisses. "You want him to stay?" he asks. "Yes." she cries. Tom goes to her side and Alan heads to the other. "You'll be alright just breath."Jenny rubs her daughter's cheek. "She looks just like you." Tom tells her. She smiles. "You promise you're gonna protect her?" she asks. "On my life." he says. "She'll be loved?" she asks. "She will be. Howard and his wife are two of the best people I've ever meet and they will be perfect parents. She'll grow up in a normal family where Nathan will never find her." he promises. "He can't know about her." she reminds him. "He won't. I will give my life for your daughter's safety." he says, touching the baby's head. "Do you wanna name her?" he asks. "Veronica." she says. "Mom?" he asks. "Mom." she answers. "It's a good name. It suits her." he compliments. "I don't wanna give her up." she tells him. "I wish you didn't have to buy Nathan is too dangerous." he says. She nods and kisses her daughter's head.
A few hours later
Tom walks up to Alan's office and grabs him before he can walk out. He pushes him back into his office, pressing his gun to his neck. "You're gonna listen very carefully. I know you got a little girl at home and if you wanna see her again you'll do what I need. My sister's baby, is she healthy?" he asks. "Yes." Alan says quietly. "Good, you get her ready to be taken." He says. "I can't do that." He says. "You don't have a choice." Tom tells him, turning off the safety on his gun. "The hospital wouldn't let you take a baby who's only a few hours old."
"Expect she won't be alive. You're gonna sign a death certificate." He tells him. "I don't understand." He says. "You don't have to. You just have to do what I tell you. The girl's father, he's a bad man. If we let him be a part of her life she will die. Now, imagine it's Nadia's life on the line. Its not, it's yours." He threatens. "Okay." He whimpers. That night
Alan walks into his living room and drops onto the couch. Carla walks in. "Honey, where have you been?" she asks. "Why do you smell like a dirty bar?" she asks. "I've been at a dirty bar." he tells her, answering both questions. "What's wrong?" she asks. "I signed a birth certificate and a death certificate for the same girl today." He tells her. "Oh honey." she rests her head on his shoulder. "I don't know how much longer I can stay in this town." He tells her. "Alan I'm pregnant." she tells him. He hardly reacts. "Why don't you go see Nadi." she suggests. "Isn't she asleep?" he asks. "She'll be happy to be woken up to see Daddy."
He gets up and walks into Nadia's room. He leans into her crib and picks up her. She opens her eyes and looks around. "Daddy!" she wraps her arms around his neck. "Hi baby." he says. He bounces her. "I love you Nad." He says. "Love, Daddy." she says softly, falling back asleep in his arms.Just some back story I meant to publish last night. Sorry about the delay. Another part coming tonight too.
