2:32 p.m.
Alexis leans against Julian and smiles at him. "I'm really glad we decided to do this." She says. "So am I." He says, kissing her cheek. "Will you help me stand?" She asks. He puts his arms under hers and provides her with support. Once standing she turns to help him stand but be declines, using the wall as support.
The nurse walks over. "You seem to be a little trouble, are you alright?" She asks Alexis. "I'm fine. I'm just old." She laughs. "But my husband on the other hand, well I think he might be a little queasy." She teases. "Well we only have about another twenty minutes of class. You should take the rest of the break to get to know some of the other couples." She suggests.
Julian shutters at the idea but a jab in his good side tells him to shut up. "I'm just saying, we aren't here to to make friends." He says. "Well we could. It'd be nice to have more friends." She says. "They're all so young we can be their parents. I'm saying that cause two of my kids are probably older then most of them."
"Still, I'd be nice for little one to have some friends growing up." Alexis says, rubbing her stomach. "They'll have Emily." He points out. "What kind of kid grows up with one friend?" She asks. He scratches behind his ear. "Me and my brother." Julian crosses his arms. "Oh and you two both turned out fine."
"You're right. Let's go make some friends." He loops his arm with hers as they move closer to the group. "Hi, we were just introducing ourselves." One of the women says. "Oh, I'm Alexis, this is my husband Julian." She introduces. "Hi." He greets awkwardly. "I'm Nicole, this is my husband Tony and this," she puts her hands on her stomach, "is Harrison, or Harry for short."
"I'm Meredith, this is Mark, and this is Cheryl." Meredith says. Julian pauses, crossing his arms. "Cheryl? It's a nice name." He says, looking away. "I'm gonna get you a bottle of water. Gotta stay hydrated." He says, walking out if the room. Alexis turns back to them. "His ex-girlfriend, her name was Cheryl, she passed away."
"I'm sorry. I didn't bring anything up." She says. "It's fine. He's just uncomfortable. Most of you are young enough to be our kid." She tells them. "Oh. Is this your first?" Nicole asks. "No, my fourth, his fifth. Actually both of our oldest is ours together. She's farther along than I am."
"So you're having a grandchild?" Tony asks. "This is our fourth grandkid. Our daughter has a little boy of her own, she has a step son too and Julian's older son has an adopted little boy." She says. "Such a big family. My sister actually has a little two year old and my mom and dad were so excited about being grandparents." Meredith says. "Well of course I'm excited to meet my granddaughter but I'm not carrying her so I'm more anxious about this one."
Julian comes back and hands her a water bottle, kissing her cheek. "You know I don't think I caught your little one's name." Nicole says. "Oh well we don't actually know what we're having. If it's a girl, Sarah, and a boy, Logan." She tells them, wrapping her arm around Julian's waist. She notices a young girl alone, watching the different groups. Alexis smiles at her. "Hi, I'm Alexis."
"Hello." She looks down at her phone. "I'm her husband, Julian." He puts his hand on Alexis' side. "Honey, how old are you?" Alexis asks. "Twenty!" She answers quickly. Alexis tilts her head. "Nineteen." She admits, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "We're not judging you. Julian got me pregnant when I was only sixteen." She starts.
"You say that like I knew you were a teen. I didn't by the way. But yeah, we aren't judging you." He says. "Well thanks but I'm doing fine on my own." She says. "You're alone is a childbirth class, you're wearing a tee shirt that's too big and loose pants instead of maternity clothes."
"So? This is my life. Why do you care?" She asks. "Because we're parents too. I have two daughters in college and Julian has a daughter who's only three years younger than you. If you don't want us around, we'll just to back to the of her group of nice couples." Alexis says, turning away. "I'm sorry if I was rude. I just got out of high school and my boyfriend got me pregnant and left. His parents are paying for this and once I deliver, they're gonna take him."
"You're an adult. You don't have to let them take him." Alexis says. "They don't think I can take care of him." She tells them. "Prove you can. They can't take him if you don't want them to. When are you due?" Alexis asks. "Christmas eve." She says. "Wow, you started coming too late. You'll deliver before classes are done. Who's your doctor?"
"Kevin Malootian. He's not an OB here. My boyfriend, ex-boyfriend's, parents picked him. He's cheep and discreet." She explains. "Okay. There's an OB here at GH. He's fantastic. Alan Harper. He'll take great care of you and your baby and he's very sweet. He won't judge you."
"I don't think they'd approve." She says. "I'm sorry, are they the ones carrying that little boy?" Alexis asks. "No, I am. I don't want them to take my baby boy. What do I do?" She asks. "I can't tell you what to do. Just know that you have a friend who knows what you're going through." She assures her. "Thank you, Mrs."
"Jerome." Alexis says proudly. "Thank you Mr. And Mrs. Jerome. No one else has been kind to me. Most people see a pregnant teen and think someone who's just irresponsible and a mess up. Before this, I was a straight a student and I was the star of the field hockey team. My boyfriend and I were together since eighth grade. This was one mistake. When I walked in, everyone gave me dirty looks. You two didn't."
"I have four kids with four different women." Julian tells her. "My two daughters who aren't his are also cousins. Neither of us are in any position to judge you." Alexis says. "I think the class is starting back up." She says. "Oh, we'd better go claim our pillow or I think someone might take it." Alexis tells Julian. "I'll go." He says, kissing her cheek and heading off. "You take care of yourself and your little boy." Alexis warns. "I will. All I want is to make the most for my little man. Thank you."
Alexis smiles and turns to head to Julian. "Do you think you could give me some tips?" She asks, grabbing Alexis' arm. "Oh, I can totally do that."
