7:32 a.m.
"I've never seen your father get like that." Alexis says, pacing in the kitchen. "I don't blame him. She's horrible. How could anyone be so cruel to watch the children they brought into the world be beaten? How could you carry those children in you then leave them to suffer? It isn't right! Why is it that people who won't cherish their kids can and do have them and the people who would love their babies can't have them? It's just not fair." Jo says, leaning against the counter.
"Your poor dad. He was so happy to finally have a mother. I can't even think about that woman without getting so angry. She played him. Not even just him, all of us. I was willing to let my grandkids be around her, I let her touch my stomach. She held Emily!"
"She seemed so sweet. I mean, I trusted her. That bitch played us." Jo hisses. "Watch your language Jo. But yeah, I agree. She's a bitch. She won't be in our lives for much longer so it's almost over. Once she passes, your father will be able to go back to normal. It's horrible to say but at least this is close to the end."
"Do you think it's time for him to get out of bed?" Jo asks. "I don't think he will." Alexis says. "He's been in been in for like sixteen hours." Jo tells her. "It's closer to seventeen and I know. He hasn't eaten, he isn't sleeping, he got up to go to the bathroom so at least he's willing to move."
"Have tried to get him out?" She asks. "He just groans. He just needs more time." Alexis tells her, hoping that'll be a good enough answer. It isn't. Jo turns to leave the kitchen, Alexis grabbing her arm. "You really wanna poke the bear?"
"No, I'm gonna hit him with a pillow." She says, pulling her hand away and going upstairs. She walks lightly, Cassy was still asleep. Olivia had taken Leo and Avery was spending the night with Kiki.
Jo knocks on her parent's bedroom door. "Dad, it's me. Can I come in?" She asks softly. "Okay, that's it, I'm coming in, be decent." She warns, opening the door. He's got his back to her and still half under the covers. "Hey Dad. You wanna talk?"
"Go away Jodie, I don't wanna talk, not right now." He says. "You don't have to talk. You just have to listen. I know you're pissed. I'm pissed too. She lied to us and she watched you and your brother get abused. She's horrible and doesn't deserve you. But that doesn't mean you can throw yourself a pitty party. I know it's painful. My mother lied to me my whole life too. I grew up thinking my dad was dead. I spent every father's day crying because I'd never have what the other did."
     "Our situations are completely different!"
"No they aren't! My mother let suffer for years too. She told me on her deathbed that my father is alive and what she did. I didn't think I'd ever forgive her! Then she died. She died and I didn't get a proper goodbye because I was so consumed by anger that I let my mother die thinking I hated her. Truth is, I was pissed, but I never hated her. I couldn't. I know it's different for you and Grand-" she catches and stops herself, "Margaret."
"You're right, it's completely different. You weren't abused. You didn't watch your brother become an addict and slowly kill himself." He says, still not rolling over or sitting up. "No, but I lived in constant danger of being murdered by my mom's ex or my sister. You don't get to say I don't know what it's like. I had to kill my own sister because she hated me so much that she'd kill me if I didn't stop her."
"So you're telling me I should go over to the nursing home and tell her I'm sorry and I've been a horrible son and give her a mug that says number one mom?" Julian asks sarcastically, finally sitting up. "That isn't what I said. I didn't tell you to do anything. I'm telling you what I went through. Trust me, it sucks. Make your own choices."
Jo jumps off the bed and goes back downstairs. Alexis sits on the couch, holding her stomach. "How'd it go?" She asks. Jo shrugs and sits next to her, leaning on her shoulder. "I know you know what this is like to go through something like this with your mother."
"At least I have the answers now. Tom's book he left me. I think it'll have all the answers I need. Only problem is, I don't know if I want them all. Ignorance is bliss." Jo says. "You need to know what else you don't already know. Tom left you that book because he wanted you to read it. It could help you find peace."
"I think I'm gonna take it a page at a time." Jo says. "Good. And when you're done maybe you'll let me read it. I'd love to be able to help you through this. Plus there are probably some adorable pictures of little Jodie."
"Probably. I just hope there's some more pictures of me and Tom. I don't have a lot of just us." She says. Alexis stays quiet, not knowing what to say. Jo realizes this and stops talking. Alexis kisses her head. "Your dad may be acting like a jerk right now but he loves you more than anything. Always remember that. So do I. You're my daughter too. Don't ever forget that."

9:12 a.m.
"I know honey. Oh I know. So much moving. I know." Sam whispers, getting Emily out of the car and walking to her parents' front door. Alexis opens the door, a bit shocked to see Sam, though she gets her inside quickly. "What are you doing here?" She asks. "I was hoping I could steal Jo for the day and you and Dad would take Emily."
"I'm actually going to meet Diane for lunch but your dad would be more than happy to watch Emily for the day. Cassy has to go to physical therapy so Jodie is free too." She tells her. "Good, I really need Jodie for this. It was actually kinda her idea. We're gonna go see Margaret, get real answers."
"Please be careful. Don't let your dad know. He's got enough going on without his daughters getting into trouble for harassing an old woman." Alexis says. "We won't. I have a feeling she'll be more than willing to tell us anything we ask."
Julian comes out from the downstairs bathroom, lighting up when he sees Sam and Emily. "What are you two doing here?" He asks, finding a way to get Emily into his arms. "Well I came to pick up Jo and drop Emily off with you. I figured it'll be good practice for when the littlest makes their grand appearance." She says. "Oh, I'd love to but Sam, are you sure you wanna be doing something away from her? I mean, she's what, ten days old?"
"I need a few hours away from her and you need a few hours with her. It works out perfectly. I have all her stuff in the car and if you need anything we won't be far." Sam says. "Where are you going?" He asks. "Oh, you know, massages." She lies, giving him a smile.
"Right, because Jodie is definitely gonna be okay with a stranger touching her bare back while she's laying face down. I mean, when I say it like that of course Jo would be thrilled." He says sarcastically. "So what are you really gonna do? Do I even wanna know?"
"Probably not. We'll be alright. Where is Jo?" Sam asks, looking up the stairs. "Cassy was in a lot of pain this morning, I think Jo was helping her with a shower." Alexis says. "Jo's such a good friend. She really cares about Cassy, she's gonna be such a big help for the baby." Sam says. "She really is a godsend. Oh, oh I didn't tell you."
"Tell me what?" Sam asks her mom, holding her hands. "No asked me to adopt her. I'm gonna be her official mother." She announces. Sam covers her mouth and gives a bounce. "This is amazing! I was so hoping this would happen but I didn't wanna push either of you. This is good news. I needed some good news."
"What good news?" Jo asks, coming down the stairs. "Mom is adopting you. I'm so happy for you two. I'm happy for the family. This is just what we needed." Sam says. "And I'm changing my last name to Jerome." Jo says. "Jodie Jerome. It's perfect!" Sam beams, squeezing her tightly. Jo squeaks, her shoulder still sore from the fall she took. "Sorry kiddo."
"It's cool. I'm gonna go grab my phone and tell Cas we're going." She says, heading back upstairs. "Have fun with Emily today. Oh and she's been spitting up all morning so have a towel ready." Sam warns, laughing at her dad as Emily does exactly what she warned and spits up on Julian, giving a little cough to get the rest out.
He sighs. Alexis holds her stomach and watches him, her heart fluttering. Jo comes back down and they head off. "They're going to see Margaret aren't they?" He asks.
     "Yes they are."
