____________it had been a week since grayson and ethan had gotten into a car crash, and a week since ethan's death. an ambulance had taken ethan to a hospital, and grayson continued to los angeles. he signed whatever papers he had to sign for their apartment, and drove back to new jersey. you, grayson, and your families were currently getting ready for ethan's funeral.
ethan had been dead on the scene, the impact from the other car killing him almost immediately. you had been in love with him, but grayson took it the hardest. he had watched his brother die beside him, and you knew that would affect him for the rest of his life.
you looked in your long mirror as you adjusted your black dress, with three quarter length lace sleeves. you had done your makeup and hair, and was ready to go.
you grabbed your black heels, and went downstairs. your parents were waiting for you. you put your shoes on, and the three of you left the house without speaking a word. there really wasn't anything to say. everyone was grieving the boy that always had something to say, and always had a smile on his face.
your parents drove you to the funeral home, as you sat in the back seat, staring out the window. there was no music, and no chatter. you felt empty, and in denial.
the car pulled into the funeral home parking lot, and you got out. grayson's car was already here, along with his parents' car, and cameron's, grayson and ethan's sister. she had been in college when she got the call, saying her brother had died.
you walked inside the funeral home, and was greeted by ethan's mom, lisa.
"y/n, i'm so glad you could make it." she said, pulling you in for a hug. you simply smiled at her when she pulled away. it was a pained smile. one that attempted to hold back tears. "grayson's over there, with ethan." lisa said, pointing in the direction of the stage, and all the chairs.
"with ethan?" you asked, your voice squeaking.
"yes. the casket is open." lisa told you. you nodded, and started walking through the funeral home. you saw the back of grayson. standing beside him was cameron. lining the stage was many different types of flowers, and in the middle of it was a few pictures of ethan. there was a picture of you, ethan, and grayson, that you had taken two weeks before the crash.
"grayson." you said softly, almost like a whisper. grayson turned around, looking at you. his eyes were red and puffy. tears stained his red, splotchy cheeks. his lips were chapped and swollen, and he had large bags under his sad eyes. your heart broke at the sight in front of you. grayson walked over to you, and pulled you in for a hug.
"i'm sorry." you whispered, hugging him back. you pulled away, and hugged cameron who had turned around. she had the same tired expression on her face.
after you had hugged both grayson and cameron, you walked over to the casket. you looked inside, a small sob escaping your lips. ethan dolan lay still, his skin and lips blue. his hands were together as his arms lay across his stomach, and his eyes were closed. he wore a black suit with a white dress shirt, and his hair was neatly combed. he looked so peaceful, like he was asleep.
you ran a finger across his cheek, and it was nothing but cold. you slowly pulled your hand away, and felt a few tears run down your cheeks. you looked away, and sighed. your eyes were closed. grayson put a hand on your shoulder, and you opened your eyes before looking at him. grayson nodded, and led you away from the casket of ethan.
from the casket of the person you loved, and missed your chance to tell them that.
____________i am sorry for all your tears
