you were walking down the hallway at school, when you saw him. ethan dolan, in his full glory. he was walking with his friends as he laughed, and pushed his hair out of his face. you smiled at him as you went by, and he smiled back.
ethan was really popular at your school. pretty much everyone knew him, mainly because he was your school's quarterback. he was a nice guy, and tried to be friends with everyone, or at least friendly to everyone.
you had a couple classes with ethan, and tended to help him with his work. he knew who you were, and would consider the two of you friends. nothing more, and nothing less.
but over the course of the semester, you had grown to have feelings for ethan. feelings that you doubted would be mutual, but ethan made you happy. he was kind, and funny.
you walked into the cafeteria, and looked around for your best friend. you spotted her, and walked over to the table she was sitting at.
"hey." you said as you dropped your backpack on the ground, and sat down.
"hey, how's your day going?" your friend asked.
"pretty good, science was easy, and i saw ethan in the hallway." you said with a smile.
"well don't look now, but you're about to see him again." your friend said, and pointed behind you with her fork. you turned in your seat, and saw ethan walk into the cafeteria with his friends. once again, he was laughing.
"his friends seriously can't be that funny. every time i see the guy, he's laughing." your friend said.
"maybe he's just a happy person." you mumbled as you got your food out of your backpack.
"when are you gonna tell him you like him?" your friend asked. you looked up at her, and shook your head.
"probably never." you replied.
"why?"
"because i'd just be embarrassing myself."
"oh, come on! please, do it today."
"no!"
"please, y/n."
you sighed. "fine, i'll do it after school."
"yay! thank you." your friend said before returning to her lunch.
you and your friend made small talk, until it was time for class. you cleaned up your lunch, and put your empty containers back in your backpack. you had math with ethan next, and didn't want to be late.
you said goodbye to your friend, and left for class. you started climbing up the stairs, and heard someone calling your name. you turned around to see that it was ethan.
"hey, y/n. coming to math?" he asked. the two of you started climbing up the stairs together.
"yeah, of course. what about you?"
"yeah. if i don't go to class, i don't get a football scholarship."
"hm, makes sense." you replied.
"yeah. what's your reason for coming to class?" ethan asked.
"umm, if i don't go, my parents might disown me."
"really?"
"yeah, they're pretty strict on me going to school every day."
"well you could come to school, but that doesn't mean you have to attend class."
"that's when the office calls your parents to tell them you missed a class."
"wait, they do that here?"
"they do it everywhere." you chuckled. you hadn't even noticed that you and ethan were already at your classroom. you had been so focused on the conversation.
"well, here we are." ethan said, and waited for you to go inside the classroom. the two of you were a bit early, so there was only a few other students in the classroom. you sat down at a desk, and watched as ethan sat beside you.
"based on what we learned yesterday, i may need some extra help." ethan grinned. he put his bag on the floor, and took out his supplies. you did the same, and started doodling in your notebook.
math class went by slowly, as it always does. you had helped ethan alot, and you knew he was thankful. the bell for next period rang, and you quickly put all your stuff away before leaving the classroom.
the rest of your day ticked on. as the last couple minutes of your final class went by, you started getting very nervous. you promised your friend that you'd tell ethan how you feel, but you were worried of what he might say.
you ran out of your class, and went downstairs. you saw ethan in the main lobby, getting ready to leave. he was alone, and you waited for him
to leave the school before following him."hey, ethan!" you yelled. ethan turned around, and smiled when he saw you.
"hey, y/n. thanks again for your help in math today." ethan replied.
"oh, it's no problem. i uh actually wanted to talk to you about something though."
"okay, what's up?"
"well, i uh...i don't know how to put it any other way, but um...i like you, kinda. sorta. alot."
"oh, y/n. shoot i feel so bad."
"wait, why? what?"
"um, i don't really think of you in that way. i hope i wasn't like leading you on or something."
"no, no you weren't. i just think you're a really nice guy, and i don't know.." you chuckled nervously as you trailed off, unsure of what to say.
"thank you, you're really cool yourself. i hope we can stay friends?"
"yeah, of course." you replied. you realized in that moment that you had been friendzoned.
"okay, great. i'll see you tomorrow, y/n."
"you will. strict parents, remember?"
"i remember." ethan chuckled. "bye." he said before walking away, towards his car.
