Aces
-
You were a second year, the ace in your volleyball team, having the victorious and ambitious aura surrounding you, the humble but confident heart in your chest.
On the other side, he was a mere first year. Having a ambitious heart and competitive mentality, excitement lighting in his eyes when he did something extraordinary, he was a hardworking perfectionist.
It all started when he heard the third years talking about you during lunch break, even the super ace, Ushijima, showed interest towards the topic about you.
They talked about how determined you are, how you could easily bring the team's fighting spirit up and bring out their 100 percent during matches. Nevertheless, they admired your talent and techniques.
When the boys talked about how talented you are, you will always reply:
Talent wins games, teamwork wins championships.
When the first year, Goshiki Tsutomu, heard how great and almighty you were, he was determined to see you play one day.
-
The girls were warming up for the friendly match that was hosted in their school, Shiratorizawa, and Goshiki was among the crowd in the bleachers, waiting to see the ace everyone's been talking about.
"There she is! (Y/N)! Do your best!" A girl cheered on, and all eyes were on you, cheers roared in the crowd.
"Miss Popular I see?" Your best friend teased, and you gave her a questioning look with your brow raised and she giggled.
You didn't like to be in the spotlight, as you strongly believed that volleyball requires a lot of teamwork, so you wanted to let everyone fit in the spotlight.
"Everyone, give your all in this game. You win, you stay, got it?" You said as everyone huddled up in a circle in the court.
"Yes. Shiratorizawa, yosh!" You and your teammates cheered loudly, and the crowd cheered and clapped.
"Shiratorizawa!"
"Shiratorizawa!"
-
The match quickly ended, with your team having victory, as usual.
As everyone bade goodbyes, you stayed back in the gym and practicing by yourself. To your unknown, Goshiki was looking at you from the bleachers, and you stopped what you were doing and asked.
"Yes? You need anything?"
The raven haired male tensed and stuttered, "I-I'm just looking..." He blushed and you cracked a smile.
"I suppose you're the 'future ace' that Satori-kun is talking about, come and play a rally with me," you challenged and he gulped before walking down to the court shakily, looking unconfident.
"Yeah, I mean no! I'm no ace, I'm working on it though," he stuttered while rubbing his neck awkwardly.
"So, do you want to play or not?"
-
He was panting on the ground, exhausted already. Somehow you ended up training him on his receiving and he was eager to learn, but ended up half dead.
"Come on, aces aren't weaklings," you commented and he stood up with sweat trickling down his face.
This scenario made you flashback to when you were a third year in your junior high. Your coach saw potential in you and trained you everyday like mad, serving dozens of balls and receiving hundreds of balls were no easy task.
"I'm ready," the first year stood up and got in his receiving position, and you threw the ball back into the basket and said.
"We're done for today. Tell me your name by the way."
He seemed flustered before straightening up and answered, "I'm Goshiki Tsutomu, a first year."
You smiled and nodded, be sure to keep his name in mind.
"Let's go home, it's getting late."
-
A year has passed, during the past year, you've been training Goshiki and he has gotten much stronger.
During your graduation, he stared at you wearing your graduation mortarboard, hood and gown.
"(Y/N)-senpai," he muttered, not wanting you to leave this school.
"Can we... speak somewhere more private?" He requested, and you kindly nodded, following him to the gym you two first met.
"Do you still remember we first met here? That time, I was so nervous and excited to meet an ace like you, and I was dumbstruck when you wanted to play a rally with me. Senpai, there's things I want to say before you leave this school for another college," he turned and face you, his eyes serious and body tensed.
"Y-yes?" You asked, slightly whispering at how serious he is.
"I like you, (Y/N)-senpai," he confessed, his shoulders tensing and face flushed. Your face flushed too, but not as red as his.
Giving him a small smile, you spoke, "I'm really glad we felt the same way, Tsutomu." His eyes went wide and he blinked.
"Really?" His smile grew wider and you nodded, taking off your mortarboard and placing it on his head, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek.
"Stay in touch, (Y/N)," he whispered while hugging you tightly, some tears falling.
"I will, ace."
