he was a really smart and quiet boy and he was your classmate. he was confident in everything he did. he rarely failed to answer the question every time the teacher called on him, and the class find it amusing at how is he so quiet yet have a great mind.
you really liked him, and he did not really feel the same as you were just acquaintances with him. recently students have been going to the gym after school to watch the volleyball boys practicing, and you thought, 'no harm in going, right?'. and you joined the group to watch the practices. it sparked an interest in you and your eyes would often glue to the regular setter's.
despite all his flaws, you still liked him. you like it how his brows creases whenever he is setting, how he tape his fingers and the smile on his face whenever he made a great set. not to mention you didn't really mind his screwed up fringe.
you would always have a mini heart attack whenever he made eye contact at you, and you nearly hyperventilated when he smiled at you.
but damn, you thought. you realized that he was not doing all that to you, but to the girl behind you. she was the prettiest and smartest girl in the whole second year, and your heart cracked into pieces when the fact hit you in the face. you smiled bitterly and decided to head home instead, thinking how much of a joke you are. those times when you would always fan girl over him and obsess over him made you want to dig a hole and die.
and the worst thing is, you had your hopes up that as long as you don't give up, he would actually notice you and accept your feelings. it was really stupid, loving someone who loves another person.
since then, you have been ignoring him each time he stared at you or even tried to help you in studying. you would see him with that girl and smiling sweetly at each other. it still hurts after weeks.
until one day, he decided that he had enough of you giving him the cold shoulder. an afternoon while you were reading in the library, just reading over some notes for the upcoming test, he approached you and took a seat in front of you.
you tried your best not to get distracted and continued reading, but your heart was pounding so fast you can't even concentrate. he kept doing little gestures which you could not resist, but you held it back. he would use his leg and brush past yours under the table, or stretch his long hands out and pretend that he was just stretching.
finally, you gave up when his hand accidentally touched yours. "shirabu-kun, if you're not here to study, then please stop distracting me."
he let out a triumph smile, "so i'm distracting you after all? so you're not gonna give me the cold shoulder anymore? and are you going to explain what's with you for this past few weeks?" as he went on his smile faded and turned into a frown instead.
you didn't know how to answer, so you sat there and stared at him until he continued, "i've been trying to communicate with you, despite having schoolwork and practice to get done with. you're constantly on my mind, and it's really stressful. and i feel like my mind is going to explode because of you. everyday i ask myself what did i do wrong and resulted in this cold treatment."
your heart couldn't take it. it felt like it was clenched and crushing. "then don't. don't think about me since you have her. be with someone who makes you happy."
you stood up and gathered your papers, ready to leave but he stood up so quickly, as if he was afraid to see you walk out of his life. the chair toppled and created a loud noise.
"did you think i could actually do that, (first name) if only i could, I wouldn't even be here. don't you get it? i like you. don't leave me waiting like a lost puppy and give me the cold treatment then walk out of my life!" he growled and the libriain kicked us out of the library.
once we were outside, i stood beside him and asked, "did you really mean it?"
"do i look like i'm joking just now?" he fired back with slight anger.
"don't you dare get angry at me. you were the one getting so close with (female name) and made me get damn jealous. plus, you made us get chased out of the library, now how am I going to study?" you huffed.
"she's just my close friend, and you said you're jealous, so you like me too?" he smiled down at you, and your face went red.
"shut up," you hissed in embarrassment and stormed off, and he easily caught up with you, his smile never fading.
"you like me don't you?" he teased, his hands stuffed in his pocket.
"i'm gonna go study, please don't disturb me," you warned before spinning around and walked off again.
"we could go to mine if you want to, (first name)-chan."
your face went red again, but there's a small smile on your face that you were trying to contain.
