"good morning class. today for our art lesson, we're going to draw one thing that comes to your mind when thinking about someone you love," the sensei clapped her hands together with a wide smile.
someone you love? staring at your blank piece of paper, your face flushed a deep embarrassing shade of red. your picked up your pencil and began to draw, a small smile making its way to your lips.
a satisfied smile was plastered on your face when you finally finished your artwork. you handed it in and the bell rang as if on cue.
-
the next day when you were walking to school, everyone was crowding around outside your classroom. feeling curiosity nibbling at the back of your mind, you subconsciously pushed past the crowd and saw your artpiece hanging on the wall with other students'.
"(first name)! you have a crush on kenma-kun?" your classmate squealed. you blushed and felt your face burning and immediately dashed past everyone's questions.
you soon found yourself on the rooftop, trying to calm yourself down. you were mentally screaming and was so engrossed in your thoughts that you didn't even realize that a small crowd was just beside you.
"there she is, kenma, your secret admirer," a deep voice rang in your eyes and you snapped at the voice.
"what?" you asked and a certain pudding head sneaked a peek at your face from his gaming device. you felt your body shiver under the volleyball boys' gazes.
"so i heard you got a crush on kenma yeah?"
"she's pretty!"
"yeah! i'm so jealous~"
by then, a commotion was going on and kenma put his gaming device away and stared at you, his face expressionless which made you feel nervous.
it seems like no one was around when you made eye contact with the pudding head, just you and him staring into each other's eyes.
"nice drawing," he commented with a small blush. you felt a wave of relief hit you as he said those words, at least things weren't going to be awkward anymore.
the bell rang and he gave you a small wave before walking off, his team mates trailing behind him and still going on about the crush thingy you had.
-
you caught yourself staring at the artpiece you drew. it was a pudding on top of a cat's head and a volleyball in its hands. it didn't really match the topic which said 'one thing' but the teacher apparently said that it was a nice drawing with great combinations. you were glad.
after school, you found yourself walking towards the gym. sounds of balls bouncing and shoes squeaking could be heard as you inched nearer.
"here to see kenma, (last name)-san?" kuroo teased you and you shook your head. lies.
"well come on in then," he grabbed your arm and pulled you into the gym, and your eyes searched for kenma as you scanned the different types of people playing.
there he stood on the court, setting balls to a first year, haiba lev. you could see how unsynchronized they were and annoyance in kenma's golden orbs.
"do you wanna try playing?" the sly captain arched a brow and you shrugged. "i'll give it a try."
you walked over to kenma with a unsteady heartbeat and you picked up a stray ball. "let her try, kenma."
the setter nodded with hesitation before walking off and took a break. "let's go," you threw the ball to lev and he received to you almost perfectly. you took note of his height and set the ball gracefully, and he spiked the ball down with a loud smack and landed.
his eyes shone with excitement and kuroo awed at your first perfect attempt. "how did you do that?" kenma showed interest and his team mates let out a silent wow.
"i don't really know, i just took note of the spiker's height and his highest point then i aimed for it," you slowly explained then took another ball from the basket and began practicing setting.
"that was amazing, (last name)-san!" lev and yamamoto grinned.
-
you decided to stay back with kenma to practice and kuroo headed home first as he had visitors coming to his house that day.
the nervousness in your chest vanished by now, and you felt comfortable with kenma, and you really enjoyed his company though he don't speak much.
you loved how his eyes show focus whenever he sets the ball up. or how he show a small satisfied smile when he hits his target. you even loved it when he pouts slightly in disappointment when he missed.
"it's late, we should go home," he decided and you nodded in agreement, slinging your bag over your shoulders and walked home.
"where do you live, (last name)-san?" he asked while walking side by side with you. you hummed and replied, "the fourth house down this street, you?"
"i live just a few houses away," he answered and looked at you for a split second. you nodded and began talking about volleyball.
you didn't even know how but somehow your hands were intertwined with his, and you loved the warmth of it. when you reached your house, you felt reluctant to let go.
he seemed to notice this and he smiled, "it's okay, (last name)-san, we can do this again tomorrow."
you couldn't hold back the smile you've been trying to contain, and broke into a grin. you nodded and thanked him for sending you home before embracing the little setter into a tight hug.
"see you tomorrow kenma," you said before giving him a peck on the lips. his eyes widened and he nodded in embarrassment.
"see you."
