Friendzone
-
It was strange and funny how you've met this dual colored owl standing beside you. You didn't expect to meet someone in such a cheesy way, but it still managed to put a smile on your face whenever you thought of that particular day.
-flashback-
You yawned softly, your hands above your head and stretching. Gathering your pile of heavy books, you exhaled deeply and pushed the door open, a cup of coffee on your left hand and the books on your right.
A muffled voice was behind that door, but due to your late reaction, you opened the wooden door and heard a loud knock, followed by a hiss and a groan.
"Ita! Who's that!?" The victim growled, and you panicked before attempting to shut the door immediately, but failed to notice that you've shut the door on the person's foot.
"Ouch! Stop it!" The same voice squeaked and you pushed the door open again, only to reveal a third year male with black roots and white dyed hair. Beside him was another third year with black hair and blue eyes, his face held a bored expression despite witnessing his friend injured.
"Bokuto-san, please stand up. It's embarrassing," the black haired male commented bluntly, and the 'Bokuto' guy flinched at his hurtful comment before standing up on his feet and brushing his pants off from dirt.
You gulped awkwardly before chuckling nervously, forcing out a 'I'm sorry'.
"I'm gonna go first," the raven haired guy said and went ahead after seeing how stunned his friend was.
Not hearing his response, he went into the classroom, leaving his flustered friend behind.
"You," Bokuto pointed down at you and you used your books to cover your face, exposing your light (eye color) eyes.
"What's your name?" He asked after a long pause, and you smiled gently up at him.
"I'm (Y/N)," you held your hand out, waiting for him to shake. He gave you a childish pout before shaking it firmly, then crossing his arms over his chest like a grumpy toddler.
You giggled at his childish behavior before apologizing again and walked away with him staring behind you.
After walking to your next class, you realized your favorite manga was gone.
"Shit, my book," you hissed in frustration, not knowing that Bokuto was currently flipping through the pages and enjoying it.
-
Cheesy enough, Bokuto has returned your book and you two began hanging out ever since. Being naive, he thought that he was something more to you, but didn't expect you to say,
"We're just friends."
Those words hurt him like an arrow piercing through his heart as reality hits him. Each time someone asked, you would answer them with a constant, blunt answer in front of the male,
"We're just friends."
But every time after you do that, he will endure the pain in his chest and continue smiling and joking around with you. And the night later he would curl up in a ball, thinking whether he should say those words,
"I don't want to be just friends, (Y/N)."
Then the next day, he would walk to school with you and Akaashi, forgetting everything that happened last night.
But today, he wasn't going to do that.
The day before today, you said it again, that night, he thought about it again too.
"I won't let this go," he sighed before closing his eyes, his brows creased due to the painful thoughts weighing down on his shoulders.
-
The morning sun rose, the color of the sunlight shining through Bokuto's window in the same color of his eyes.
No matter how much he wanted to smile and forget, he couldn't. Today was different, maybe he just couldn't take it anymore.
"Oh, we're just-"
"- we're dating now," Bokuto cut you off, and you stared at him with your brows raised, wondering why did he just say that.
-
"(Y/N)?" He nudged you gently, but you simply huffed and looked away, not wanting to see him.
"Are you angry? I'm sorry~" He whined, and you quickened your pace home, wanting to get away from him.
You weren't mad at him, you're just really embarrassed when everyone shot interested glances at you. At the thought of Bokuto saying that you two were dating, your face immediately went red.
"(Y/N)~ Ahh!" He shrieked, and you shot him a questioning gaze.
"What?" You barked, and he waved his hands in front of you dramatically before fake crying.
"You're so mad at me that your face is red! I'm sorry!" He cried out and you stifled a giggle, brushing his stray baby hairs out of his face before resting your hands on his broad shoulders.
You went in for a hug, and heard a confused 'hmm' from the dramatic male.
"Explain."
He blinked a few times like a confused owl before pouting like a child, "I'm tired of being just a 'friend' to you, (Y/N). I want to be... something more, someone that you can't live without," he stated, a little embarrassment in his tone.
Smiling into his muscular chest, you spoke with your voice muffled, "You should've said, Bokuto. I love you."
You could hear the speed of his heartbeat pick up, and his mouth formed a little 'o'.
"Really? I love you too, (Y/N)! I thought that you don't like me this way," he grinned broadly, his smile bright like the sunshine.
"You're not friendzoned anymore," you buried your face in his chest again.
