You counted down the minutes to your birthday. The usual rowdiness and bickers were gone, they were replaced by silence and loneliness.

All your friends had either went to the summer camp or training camps for a week, and they won't be back until the day after tomorrow.

You pursed your lips bitterly, wondering if they even remembered your birthday. You sat in the gym alone, sighing. The doors were shut and it's so quiet that you could even hear a pin drop.

You hugged your knees to your chest and pressed your back to the cold walls. You didn't even know why you came to the gym, maybe it's because you wanted to have some alone time and reminisce the moments you spent with your friends.

You definitely missed them, you were thankful to have met the boys through a volleyball match they spectated. You played for the (favourite school) team and everyone were awed by your skills.

You remembered that after your match, the finals against (least favourite school), the boys approached you and got your phone number. Since then, you've been texting them and got to know one another more.

Weeks after that, the Karasuno volleyball gym became a spot for all of you to gather and catch up. You guys would either play volleyball or just sit around and talk.

You were glad that your Tokyo friends would come all the way to Miyagi. You lived in Miyagi so you felt bad for those who have to travel a long way.

While you were sitting in the gym alone, a certain bunch of volleyball boys who are your friends, were on their way to surprise you. Some cycled, some took the train and the rest took the bus, and they're all on their way to spend your special day with you.

Those by train arrived first, followed by those who took the bus, and lastly, the cyclists. When they all arrived metres outside the gym, the double checked their items - a large rainbow cake, candles, their presents and party confetti poppers.

The tallest of them all, Kuroo, peeked through the tiny window and gave an 'ok' sign to the rest when he spotted you.

Then, one of the few reliable ones, Iwaizumi, headed to the electric control panel, unlocking it softly and killed the lights in the gym. You flinched from the sudden loss of brightness and looked around, wondering was it a blackout.

Outside the gym, Nishinoya lit up the candles on the birthday cake with a match, and the flame lit up their dark surroundings instantly.

Kenma was trying to keep the wind from killing the little flame, so he cupped his hands around the candles, hoping that the fire would stop dancing and stay lit.

Meanwhile, you were in the gym, confusion filling you. You couldn't see anything except your own hands. You were about to walk to the metal doors when the doors slid open.

There were many silhouettes at the doorway. You squinted your eyes and then, as if on cue, the lights were brought back. Your eyes widened in surprise and disbelief when you recognised those faces.

In the doorway, there stood Kuroo, Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Kenma, Nishinoya, Kageyama, Hinata, Bokuto and Akaashi.

They had smiles on their faces and you felt your vision get blurry as tears filled your eyes. Before you could say a word, Nishinoya and Hinata popped the confetti poppers, the loud sound making you flinch.

You felt your heart getting warm, you were moved by their surprise and you couldn't be anymore grateful for it.

Akaashi held the cake in his hands, and the group walked towards you while singing the birthday song. The song ended and you hoped it last longer so that you could hear their soothing and harmonious voices more.
