Chapter 11: Pass

I ate my lunch in silence.  Everything that happened, I feel like I was taught wrong.  What my father had taught me, to protect myself and trust no one meant nothing here.

"You guys, I'll give you one more chance...But after lunch I'll make it even tougher to get the bells.  Those who still wish to challenge can eat lunch.  But don't give any to Naruto."  Kakashi's words haunted me.  His glare was piercing.

I sat beside the group, yet away.  I had my back towards them.  I was so deep in thought.

"Mayu-"

"I'm fine!"  I quickly cut off Sakura and continued to eat.

"Here."  I heard Sasuke's voice.  I whipped my head to see him offering his food to Naruto. Him out of all people. He wants to become a Ninja to kill a someone and now he's risking it. Kakashi also had stated if we gave Naruto food we'd be sent back too...or never become a Ninja. I don't even remember exactly what he said.

"You'll be sent back.." I said and Sasuke moved his eyes to meet mine.

"We all know he has no energy and without food he's useless. We need him to be fed." Sasuke stated and I gave him a serious stare.

"Mayumi's right Sasuke. You won't be a Ninja." Sakura whimpered and Sasuke frowned.

"I don't sense him near here. It will be fine." Sasuke said and I closed my eyes seeing if he really couldn't be sensed. I sighed getting up and I sat in front of Naruto.

"Let's do this quickly.." I said and we all started to feed Naruto. He smiled with a small blush on his cheeks.

I gasped as I sensed him. I turned to see a large cloud of smoke.

"YOU GUYS--!!" Kakashi popped out angry as ever and my eyes widened in fright. I squinted my eyes, Sasuke grunted a bit, Naruto and Sakura screamed.

"Pass." Kakashi smiled. Once we all calmed down Sakura was quick to question Kakashi.

"Pass? But why?"

"You guys are the first." Kakashi said.

"Why..?" I questioned confused. So he's never had a real team.

"A Ninja must see underneath the underneath.. Those who break the rules and codes of the Ninja world are scum. But you know what? Those who don't take care of their comrades are lower than scum.."

Those words Kakashi said imprinted in my mind. I was slowly understanding how Ninjas should truly act.

I walked home happily.  Nothing could make me upset.  I saw Minako and she looked at me strangely.

"Why are you so happy?" She asked confused.

"I passed." I smirked and her confused smile dropped into a confused face.

I looked past her and saw Ren. He smiled at me and I ran to him and hugged him tightly.

"I passed! I passed! I'm a ninja!" I smiled at him and he laughed.

"Let's go get ramen." He lifted me onto his shoulders as we walked away from the compound. Everything was going good.
