Chapter 48: Training

Mayumi

I sat beside my father waiting for our guest. I have two more weeks before the finals and I need to do some serious training for the next weeks.

I'm healed completely, father taught me some stuff, but he finds that I need to be more advanced before coming back to him.

Toshiko entered the room and sat in front of my father and I.

"You better have something good to say, Masakazu.." Toshiko smirked frustratedly at my father.

"Of course.  I wouldn't call you in here for a stupid reason, Toshiko."  My father stated.  "Other than myself, you know a lot about Mayumi's eyes.  You know the good, the bad, the ugly.  For the next two weeks, I want you to train Mayumi."  My father said and I stared at him surprised.

"You want me to train this little girl?"

"Mayumi's chakra affinity is water.. She's a gifted child and she won't be trouble.  I promise you.  Please.. Train my daughter."  My father bowed to Toshiko and she took a deep breath.

"Fine.  I'll train her.  But if she shows me a bit of disrespect I'll stop training her."  Toshiko said.

"Understood."  My father agreed.

"So, first things first..  I've heard you know how to walk on walls and stuff.  Use the same learning and walk on that water."  Toshiko told me pointing at the river and I nodded. "But you have to remember water doesn't stay flat, current changes."

"Alright!"

I focused the chakra towards my feet and I slowly walked on the water.

"Heh.. It seems easy huh..?" Toshiko asked.

"Actually, it-" Toshiko placed her hand in the water changing the water current causing me to fall in the water.

"Try again!"

Sheesh.. These weeks will be annoying...

"Let's work on your speed!"

"Alright!"

"Climb this mountain!"

"Uhh... Alright!"

"Three laps around the village!"

"...okay?"

"10 push ups right now!"

"Okay, I think you are asking for a little too much now.."

Toshiko stared at me strangely. "You ran around the village, climbed a mountain, and 10 push ups are a lot?"

"Push ups are hard okay.." I started to think of Mika. "The girl I'm facing uses earth style. I know water style is weak against it. What do I do?"

Toshiko put on a thinking face.  "Well, during the course of our training you've been focusing on your speed, agility, strength, and water style.  Beating your opponent is not what your aiming for, it's how you do it."

"What does that mean?"

"Exactly what I mean.  Since she's an earth style user, on the last day of training, I'll teach you a lightning style jutsu if you really need it."

"Why the last day?"  I questioned. 

"It's better to work on your strengths instead of throwing in something you aren't even sure you'll be good at.  If you are really good at water style, you'd be able to take her down regardless of her earth style.  Think about it.  If you still want the lightning style jutsu, I'll show you.  I don't think it'll do you any good.  You are lucky you have those eyes, you have an advantage above those kids."  Toshiko crossed her arms.  "By the way, the only way you'd be able to have so much power is if you, let the Dragon take control.  If he does, we don't know what his intentions are."

Well every time I've appeared, I've helped you Mayumi...  Don't listen to her, you know I've got your back..

You do... Have a point...

"That bastard probably has helped you, getting your trust, when you are vulnerable, when you least expect it, it's over."  Toshiko said.  "Also, Mayumi have you realized it's getting harder to see?  The longer you use those eyes under any circumstances, you go blind."

"Are there anyways to avoid this?"  I asked.

"...No... None that is known of."
