"First off, for the second test congratulations on passing!" Anko smirked at us.
I was exhausted. Getting that scroll took a lot of chakra. When my chakra depletes, my eyes throb.
Little pig, little pig, let me in!
I'll do everything in my power to keep you out. After all, my father is watching.
I looked at my father who stood by the Third Hokage. For some reason, it seemed that my clan had good relationships with the Hokage.
On the other side of the Hokage, was a long haired woman with dark brown hair. She had a thick red band covering her forehead. Her dark eyes pierced through mine. She looked...angry.
She looks familiar...
I looked around to see that there was 7 teams left. Compared to 26 teams and 104 survivors. 28 survivors are left. The Sand Ninja were a part of it too as well as the other leaf's rookies.
"Sasuke's team passed too!" Ino cheered smiling at Sasuke. To be honest, barely.
We did a written test, we survived a crazy forest, and now we are in the final round. What does it have in store for us?
"The Hokage will now explain the third test! Listen carefully!" Anko spoke and we all became completely silent.
"Before I explain the third test, there's something I'd like you to know. It concerns the true reason for this exam." The Third Hokage spoke.
There's a true reason?
"Why do we have all the alliance countries taking the exam together? 'To promote friendship among the countries.' 'To raise the level of Shinobi.' I don't want you to be confused about the true meaning.."
Too late. I'm confused.
"This exam is a replacement for war among the allied countries."
Wait, what? So these exams are more brutal than I thought.
"If you go back in time, the current allies were enemies go fought each other over who would rule. In order to prevent wasteful fighting, the stage that these countries chose for battle... That is the origins of the Chunnin selection exams."
"Why the hell do we have to do that crap? Isn't this thing for deciding who's a Chunnin?!" Naruto yelled.
"It is a fact that this exam decides which Shinobis have what it takes to become a Chunnin. But on the other hand, this exam has another side.. Where each country's Shinobi's risk their own lives to protect their land's prestige."
"Prestige?" Ino questioned.
I hope I wasn't the only one who was still confused.
"Watching this third exam will be leaders and influential individuals from many countries who make up the clients of the Shinobi.. And the leaders of the countries will also be there to watch each of your battles. If the strength of a country is clear, that country will receive more clients... And conversely if seen as weak, they will lose clients. This will signal the potential enemy countries that 'our village has this much power.' So it will send a political message to outsiders."
