Chapter 82: Real Eyes

Kakashi

I returned back to the leaf after a mission.  I had to check on Naruto, Sakura, and Mayumi.  Sasuke left.  I had to see how they were holding up.

I went to check in with Tsunade.  She didn't seem too pleased.  A usual mood for her.

"Things keep getting more interesting each time you come back Kakashi." Tsunade sighed and I raised my eyebrow.

"So something did happen?"  I sighed and Tsunade sighed as well.  I put on a thinking face.

Did Mayumi run away this time?  Heh?

Tsunade slid a forehead protecter on her desk.  "Mayumi gave this to me.  She doesn't want the life of Shinobi no more." 

Wow...  I was close and I'm not happy about it.

I wanted to call her a coward.  Shying away from the challenge.  I want to hear the situation out before I started saying things and throwing hands.

"I see.  What did she say?"  I asked and Tsunade gave a confused smirk.

"Nothing.  Nothing at all."  Tsunade shook her head.  "Sakura told me about the disturbing encounter she had with Mayumi at the hospital.  She said how it wasn't like her at all.  The fragile flower, was cold to the bone."

I walked up to Tsunade's desk and held the forehead protecter.  "I'll go see her."

"She's back at the Suzuki compound."

Why Mayumi?  What's going on with you?

Toshiko

I walked into the hospital room to meet the nearly dead man. His eyes first glistened with excitement then slowly returned to its normal state.

"Expecting someone else?" I asked and he gave a weak smile.

"I heard about the mission the kids went on. It was dangerous. Mayumi hasn't come and seen me yet. I can tell something must be bothering her." He stated shaking his head with a laugh.

"How can you be laughing being in a state like this? Aren't you afraid of dying" I asked and he sighed.

"I have nothing, but myself and Mayumi. I guess that's why I'm not so scared."

"But you have less things you care about so you'd tend to think about it more. If it bothers you, won't it hurt more?" I stood by his bed.

"If I did, that would mean I have no faith in Mayumi. I'm not afraid to leave knowing she's in good hands."

"She turned in her headband today, Ren. Mayumi's isolating herself like she was before." I stated bluntly and I saw sorrow in his eyes.

"Really..? I honestly didn't see that coming." Ren was surprised.  I felt bad for the guy.  She didn't even come and visit him.  She turned in her headband.  What was going on with that child?

Puberty maybe?

"I don't like you that much, but in reality, you are the only one who can watch over Mayumi.  As much as the Suzuki clan gets more comfortable with her including her father, it doesn't matter.  There's more dark secrets of that clan soon to be revealed to her.  She can't trust them."  Ren stayed bluntly.  "Toshiko..  Please show her the light..  Show her life is difficult but that's no reason for her to throw it away.   She's lucky, she needs to keep going.  I talked to that Gaara child from the sand.  I know that's he's the one for her. I just know it."
