Chapter Thirty Five

A FEW MONTHS AFTER BIRTH

Kaden is blind and can't see anything, his hearing is amazing, he hates being away from me.

We tried putting him in his room but he'll start crying and it would break my heart so every night he sleeps with me. This morning I sit in Peeta's recliner so I can breast feed Kaden.

His grey eyes dart around even though he can't see and guide his head to my breast. "There you go Kaden." I whisper, kissing his four head as his eyes fall close as he starts nursing.

I brush his soft blond hair with my fingers and he smiles at this gesture. His tiny hands ball up into fists against my breast and he sighs. This is favorite thing to do, eat and listen to me talk.

"You're so handsome, like your daddy." I whisper. "But I think you'll be good at hunting like mommy... Willow doesn't like hunting." Willow comes in, rubbing her eyes with her hair a mess, yawning.

She opens one eye and instantly looks confused. She actually takes a double take. "Mommy!" I look up. "Yes?" Her mouth drops all the way to the floor as Squirt comes hopping in.

"What, are, you, doing!?!?" I giggle. "I'm breast feeding Kaden." I say quietly. "How does that work?" I shift Kaden to a more comfortable position as he nurses.

"Okay, do you know how mama doggies carry milk for their puppies?" She nods. "Well I do the same for Kaden, and I did it for you too when you were a baby."

"Wow." She says and I laugh. Peeta comes downstairs in his pajama bottoms with his strong chest shining in the morning sunlight. He grins when he sees me.

"Good morning you guys." He says and kisses Willows cheek, Kaden's head, and then he looks at me. "And good morning my beautiful wife." I smile.

He lifts my chin and kisses me gently for one long moment and breaks away with his lopsided grin on his face. "Is that Sae's fresh brewed coffee I taste on your lips?" I smirk. "Kiss me again to find out." He leans in and kisses me again and then when he breaks away Kaden sneezes.

I look down at his little grin. "God bless you baby boy." I say and kiss his four head. I put my hand on his distended belly. "Are you full?" He let's out a small burp and I grin. "I'll take that as a yes." He nestles into my chest and falls asleep.

I pull down my shirt so he is laying on the soft fabric of Peeta's shirt I'm wearing. I look at Peeta and he smiles. "I'm going to grab that coffee before Johanna tries waddling over to get it." He races into the kitchen and then Johanna bursts through the door with her belly bulging and Chip having dark circles under his eyes.

"Oh my god! It feels like I'm a stuffed pepper... That sounds good Chip." He grins. "I'll go make you one." He says in a scared, shaky voice, rushing into the kitchen. Now I will tell you, Johanna Mason maybe one of the scariest pregnant women you could meet.

She slowly sits on the couch, rubbing her large belly with a huff of air. "How's he doing?" She asks as I rock Kaden. I look up. "He's doing good, the doctor said by the time he's three they may have something to fix his vision." She nods.

"That's awesome." I nod. She rubs her belly. "It sucks being pregnant." She huffs and I nod. "This is why Kaden is the last baby, Peeta and I agreed on this." She rolls her eyes. "Sure." She scoffs and then she winces.

"Well that hurt." I look up. "What hurt?" I ask. "The baby kicking, the dumb bastard." I giggle and then I set Kaden on a blanket on the floor where he takes naps as I move around the house and busy myself. I stretch my limbs and peek my head into the kitchen to see Peeta drinking his coffee and Chip making Johanna her stuffed pepper.

I walk in and see Peeta's bed head. I press myself against him, where my body fits perfectly and run my hands through his messy hair and he grins. "What are you doing silly?" He asks and I smile kissing his lips. "Shut up I'm fixing your hair, hold still." He leans against the counter, still holding onto his coffee mug.

After I fix it to where I want it I lay my head against his chest where I hear his beating heart and sigh, closing my eyes. "You're warm." I mumble kissing his bare chest and he giggles, kissing the top of my head.

"You smell good too." Then there's a knock on the door. I kiss Peeta's lips. "Put a shirt on, get decent." He looks into my eyes with his deep blue ones.

"It's my house, I can run around naked if I wanted to." "BUT YOU AREN'T!!!!!" Johanna yells from the other room and he giggles. I put my hand on my hip. "You're so adorable." I say and he pouts. "I'm not adorable." He flexes.

"I'm manly." I roll my eyes and open the door. I see Gale in his normal seam clothing with blue flowers and toys. "Hey, can the President Of Panem come in?" I hug him close to me and smell the oranges he just are on his shirt.

"You know I don't see you as the President, come in Gale." He walks in and I lean against the wall. "So I'm guessing you're here to see the kids." He smiles. "I came to visit everyone and see how they were doing." Willow flies in and grabs onto Gales leg.

"Uncle Gale!" She squeals and he picks her up, kissing her cheeks. "Hey you munchkin! How are you?" "Cut to the chase, where's my presents?" She says with a grin and I raise my eyebrows.

"Willow that's rude, you haven't seen your Uncle Gale in quite some time." He winks one of his grey eyes. "Before I give you your present, give me your biggest smile. She grins broadly.

"Wider." He says and she does. "Wider." "If I grin any wider my cheeks are going to freeze." She says with her grin twitching. He smiles and hands her a a stuffed bunny. She smiles and kisses his four head.

"Thank you!" She says and then runs up the stairs and into her room with Squirt following. He hands me the blue flowers and a card. "Congratulations on the baby." I smile. "Thank you Gale." "Can I go see him?" I nod and bring him into the living room and scoop up Kaden from where he slept and he opens his eyes that drift to the side of the room.

"He's blind Gale." He nods, now looking stiff. "You wanna hold him?" I ask and he shakes his head. "No it's fine Katniss-" I set Kaden in his stiff arms and he gasps but Kaden just smiles.

"This is the first baby I've held." He says and I giggle. "Not as bad as you thought it would be?" He shakes his head, rocking Kaden as he smiles. He turns to look at Johanna eating her stuffed pepper and her belly bulging.

"Johanna Mason finally got knocked up?" "Put a sock in it Hawthorne, we all never thought Katniss would have kids." She says and then burps, looking at Chip. "I have heartburn." I grin and Peeta walks in with a smile to Gale. He shakes Gales hand.

"How are ya Gale?" He smiles. "Fantastic Peeta, you and Katniss make some good kids." Peeta wraps his arm around my hip and kisses my cheek. "Yeah we do." "Hey Catnip, can you grab that thing in my bag please?" I nod and open the bag to see a blue Teddy Bear and right on cue starts playing the melody to Deep In The Meadow, the lullaby I sing to Kaden as he sleeps.

Kaden's face lights up even more than before and I let tears roll down my cheeks. "Gale, this is beautiful." I whisper and he smiles. "Well I thought of you when I saw it at one of the shops in the Capitol." I hug him and set the teddy bear on Kaden's chest as it plays the song of hope, of rebellion, of peace, of death, of my life.
