"Excuse me... sorry... can I please get by?" I have been saying these sentences and various others like them while trying to make my way to where I know Steven must be.
Jed's office.
Note the word trying.
I finally break free of the crowd, and start making my way towards Jeds office, getting there quickly. I walk into the room, switching the blue folder from my right hand to my left.
"Hey Ste-" I start, but it's not Steven I find. He looks up, smirking at me. "Oh... um hello sir, I was just looking for..." he cuts me off. "For Steven? Yes. He took his break about 15 minutes ago. He should be back in about 45 minutes." he says. I just nod and turn to go. "Lyric?" he calls. I turn. "You know my name?" I ask. "Of course I do, I'm a telepath. You have a question for me, no?" he asks. I hesitantly nod, and he motions for me to ask.
I clear my throat. "So, um... aren't you supposed to be hooked up to that machine, sir?" I ask. "I took a break, as well as having other business to do, being 'The Founder' and all." he smirks, making quotations in the air while saying 'The Founder'.
I turn to go again. "Oh and Lyric? Tell Steven that I want him finding that break-out with you." he says. Not turning, I say "Did you give me this task?" "Yes." he responds. "Thank you sir." I say, then exit.
I get to find a break-out on my own.
And The Founder wanted me to.
I will die if I fail.
Great.
I finish my work for the day, and make my way to the exit. Finally, I'm out in the beautiful outside world.
Free.
Yay
As soon as I'm out of sight from both ULTRA and the public eye, I teleport to the subway station, then quickly make my way to the Tomorrow People. Before I reach the main room, I hear commotion. Steven, telling someone to wait. Then John responding.
They're talking about Jed.
John's gonna move him. Get him out.
I quickly change into my alter-look and walk into the main room.
Sure enough, there's John, stressed out as Stevens telling him what's happening at ULTRA.
"I'm moving him." John says for the millionth time. I walk over to them. "I'm helping." I say. He glances at me. "No. I'm not letting you come, Lyric. "he says quietly so that my name can't be heard. "I'm coming and that's final." I say.
He weighs his options then sighs. "Fine." I smile and jump into a hug with him.
_______
10 minutes later, we're all set to go. "You sure?" he asks. I nod. He sighs, and says "Come on then..." he says.
We walk over to the chair, quickly undoing the belt holding him there.
"What?" hes obviously confused. Then, John grabs him suddenly; teleporting away. I follow.
I arrive in an empty room of what looks to be an abandoned house. Johns casually standing, while Jed is breathing heavily, smiling.
"I never get tired of that." Jed says, smile widening. "Oh shut up, Jed." John rolls his eyes.
Before he can go on, I gasp. "John...." He turns, running to me. "What is it?!" he asks. "ULTRA agents. Almost here." Im out of breath. He looks at me confused. "How did you... we'll discuss this later. Go." he says.
I look at him.
Go. his voice says in my mind.
I turn and go to teleport, stopping halfway through. I could make it, but there's definitely D-chips somewhere near... It'll take effort... and John won't make it.
I turn to warn him, but hes already trying to teleport, but to no avail.
Great. Just what we need.
"Do you want me to teleport you?" I ask. "No. Go!" he yells just as ULTRA agents burst in.
Tears streaming down my face, I teleport away.
