His room was still flooded with light, despite it being nearly two in the morning. He must be trying to sleep, so why would the light be on?

Roman had just been passing by Anxiety's room to get something from the kitchen when he noticed the light under his door. He didn't hear anything inside, so surely Anxiety was either sleeping or attempting to. Maybe he should check on him? If he were asleep then he could turn the light off for him. Maybe he had simply forgotten.

Roman slowly opened the door, hoping it wouldn't be too loud and wake Anxiety. He looked over to the bed, and saw that he was covered under the blankets. He must have forgotten, then.

Roman flipped the light off, and was about to turn to walk out when he heard a shout.

"No! Turn it back on, turn it on, please!" Anxiety screamed, Roman scrambled to flip the switch again, missing it a few times before finally managing to find it. He looked over at Anxiety, surprised, and found him curled up in a ball, rocking himself back and forth.

"Anxiety! What's wrong? Why did you scream?" Roman questioned, approaching him cautiously. Once he was next to him he hesitantly set a hand on the other's shoulder, making him jump. He relaxed at seeing it was only Roman, but just barely.

"I-I'm s... I'm scared..." Anxiety mumbled, hands covering his face in an attempt to hide his tear-filled eyes.

"Oh, Anxiety..." Roman sat down next to him on the bed, taking a hold of his hands to pull them away from his face, looking into his eyes. "What are you scared of, dear?"

"The... th-the..." He paused, and looked away from Roman. "Please don't make fun of me..."

"I wouldn't." Roman pulled Anxiety onto his lap, wrapping his arms around him to comfort him. "Now, tell me what's wrong." He ran a hand through Anxiety's hair in an attempt to calm him.

"I'm... scared of the dark..." he mumbled, leaning into Roman and hiding his face in his chest as his cheeks burned a bright red. A few tears fell, and he felt bad for crying into Roman's shirt but the tears wouldn't stop and he didn't want to move. Roman's arms wrapped around him made him feel safe. Protected.

"It's alright, dear. I'd never make fun of you for that." Roman pressed a kiss to the top of Anxiety's head, smiling at him. "I promise you, there's nothing to be afraid of. You know if anything ever tried to hurt you I would be there to protect you immediately."

Anxiety nodded, and gave the tiniest of smiles. "I know... thanks, Roman."

"You're welcome, Anxiety." He whispered, holding him closer. "I love you."

"I love you too." He whispered back, relaxing against Roman and letting his eyes fall shut. He was tired before he had even come in, and now he couldn't stay awake much longer.

In Roman's arms, he knew he could rest safely. There was nothing that Roman wouldn't do to protect him. He would keep him safe from anything that lurked in the dark.
