"You're stupid. Really, really stupid, you know that right?" Virgil, who had just barged into Roman's room, questioned him, glaring at the royal.
"Why am I stupid?" Roman asked, wondering what he had done recently to be called stupid. "Thanks for knocking, by the way."
"Really? You don't know what I'm talking about?" Virgil stared at him, acting as thought it was the most obvious thing in the world. Roman shook his head. "Oh my god... you're even dumber than I first thought. You don't remember almost getting yourself killed, literally just a few hours ago?"
"Oh," Roman mumbled, frowning and looking to the injury he had received. It had already slipped his mind what had happened previously that day, when he was in daydream mode. "Well, I didn't die. So I can't be that stupid, can I? Besides, why would you come in here to pick a fight over that?"
"God, you're an idiot." Virgil grumbled, rolling his eyes. "Why would you put yourself at risk like that? For fun?"
"Yeah, pretty much," the royal shrugged, rolling his eyes too. Virgil continued to go off on him for how stupid he was, Roman getting more and more impatient with him.
"Since when do you even care about me this much? Can't you just calm down? I'm fine." He snapped, interrupting his rant. It succeeded in getting Virgil to stop talking for a minute, the anxious side standing still in shocked silence.
"Can't I just calm-dude." Virgil glared at him, even more annoyed than before. "Did you forget who you're even talking to?"
"Well sorry if I just don't want to continually be called stupid. Seriously, why do you care so much? It's just me. You hate me, right?" Roman snapped again, getting more and more frustrated at being treated like he was a moron. Virgil opened his mouth to keep talking, but shut it, staying quiet for a minute. Roman scoffed, trying to hide how hurt he felt. He knew Virgil disliked him, but it still stung.
"What, nothing to say? Yes, I'm aware we don't get along. Could you leave me alo-"
"Roman, oh my god you idiot, I love you!" Virgil screamed, glaring at him. When he realized what he said he stopped glaring, appearing surprised at himself. Roman was surprised too, and neither of them were sure what to say.
Virgil couldn't even think. The proper response, he thought, would be to get as far away from the situation as possible, but his feet wouldn't move. He was frozen.
Roman wasn't much better. His mind was racing, clearly shocked at finding out that Virgil loved him. Virgil, the one he argued with on a daily basis, the one he believed hated him, just admitted that he loved him. He returned Roman's feelings.
"I.." Roman tried to talk, still unsure of himself. "I love you too," he muttered, just loud enough for Virgil to hear him. Once again it was silent between them, both of them with red faces.
"You're not just.. messing with me, right?" Virgil questioned, looking away from him. Roman shook his head.
"Of course not. That's not something I'd joke about." He answered honestly. "You're not joking either, right?"
Virgil shook his head. "No, I'm not. Uh... sorry for calling you stupid. You scared me."
Roman smiled at him, stepping closer and pulling him into a hug. Virgil jumped, startled at the sudden contact, but hugged him back after realizing what was going on.
