The final trial.

The past few weeks have really been the same. Every Thursday I would go to see Barty. We would talk for a bit, sometimes he would open up, but most of the time he would shut himself in his own little bubble. Still my heart stays steady, there is something in him. I am sure of it. I do believe I am getting somewhere; all he needs is a little faith. It is near the end of term, the final trial is today. Soon we will have our school back and all we be at peace again. As usual we had the day off. Cedric has been panicking all night. I hear him pace the corridors at the dead of night. I do worry for him, even though I do not show it. The final task was not hard to guess as a huge maze had just appeared on our doorstep. For once other houses actually wore Hufflepuff scarves in support of Cedric. At breakfast all four of the competitors were quiet. Cedric just stared at his bowl of cereal, while Fleur continually stirred her drink. Victor and Harry just stared into space, obviously thinking. I began to walk back to the Hufflepuff common room when two gingers came running towards me. I was about to say hi when each one pushed me around the corner. I crashed to the ground. As I sat up a flash peered from around the corner. The twins were laughing.

“You did a prank without me?” I sounded upset.

“We saw an opportunity.” Fred laughed.

“We couldn’t miss the chance.” George said between breaths. I narrowed my eyes at them. As I stood up and brushed myself down three very angry Slytherin’s turned the corner. The twins began to whistle and turn around at the sight of them. It was Draco, Crabbe and Goyal.

“Draco you gotta little something right there.” I said tapping my nose. His nose crinkled up.

“My father shall hear about this!” he spat at me. He looked me up and down and spat in disgust. Fred upon seeing this leapt to punch him but I put out my hand signalling for him to stop.

“Its alright.” I whispered to Fred. I then turned to Draco. “Oh I don’t think your daddy’s ever gonna hear about this, ferret boy.” I said talking down to him. I referred to him as a ferret because of the joke Moody had played on him earlier in the term. Draco was picking on Harry when Moody came along and turned him into a ferret.

“Filthy half blood.” Goyal blurted out at me. At this I removed my hand and Fred landed a swift punch to Goyal on the nose. Draco and Crabbe began to cower around him and picked him up. They began to take him to the hospital wing.

“My father will hear about this.” I heard Draco cry as he turned the corner. I couldn’t help but laugh with Fred and George.

“Thanks.” I said to Fred. “Let’s go and get ready for the Trial. I feel much happier now.”

It was about four o’clock when we took our seats. We got them right at the front. It was announced that Cedric would go first, then Victor, then Fleur and then Harry. The maze that was in front of us was huge, it looked like it spanned forever. All around us was bands playing and gongs sounding. Overall it was a joyous atmosphere. Banners were being waved and chants could be heard. One by one each competitor enters the mysterious maze. The maze would close behind each person sealing them of. Before Cedric enters he looks back on the crowd, he catches my eye.

“Find.” I mouthed to him. I could see a smile broaden on his face. He then entered the maze with full confidence. I could see Moody talking to Harry, I found this nerving. As soon as Harry had entered all we had to do was wait. The bands kept on playing for entertainment.

“What do you say we liven things up?” George whispered in my ear. Fred was holding a massive firework, bigger than usual.

“Another thing you left me out of?” I asked moodily. They both gave an apologetic smile. “Fine I get to light it.”

Fred held it for me as I lit it with my wand. On three he threw it into the air. When it went of with a bang the whole stadiums attention was drawn to it. The sparks lined up to form the Triwizard cup and the Hogwarts logo on it. The cheers echoed the stadium and drowned out any boo’s from the other schools. Eventually the fuse died down. It was beginning to get dark. Suddenly everyone was transfixed on a red spark sent flying up into the air. Immediately an auroa from the ministry was sent into the maze. About half hour later she returned with Victor and Fleur. They both looked ill and hurt. Most of the crowed cheered as it meant a Hogwarts student would win.

“Something’s wrong.” I thought aloud.

“Nothings wrong it’s a game learn to lighten up Electra.” George said as he clapped. I sighed and sat back down. If something happened to Harry I would never be able to face Remus again. An hour went by with nothing happening.

“I’m going to stretch my legs.” I said to the boys. They each nodded. I got up and began to walk around the stadium. I walked right up to the top of the stalls for some fresh air. Beside me was an auroa from the ministry. She had bubblegum pink hair and a sweet face. Somewhere in my mind clicked, I knew who she was. “Tonks?” I said. She spun around instantly. She had a large grin on her face. I knew it now it was her, the one from Remus’s letters.

“Electra?” She asked.

“Yep, it’s so great to finally meet you. I have heard so much about you in Remus’ letters.” I said walking towards her and standing next to her.

“Yes and I have heard a lot about you.” She laughed.

“So how is he?” I asked.

“Oh he was fine last time I saw him, a bit tired after the full moon but he is fine.” She replied.

“Oh I’m glad his fine…and my dad?” I asked more intensely.

“Yes Sirius is fine to. He was acquitted from any charges made against him. He really wants to catch up with you.” She said. We took a short break and stared out towards Hogwarts. “I was in Hufflepuff. Best house.” Tonks said and broke the silence.

“You were? Well it is the best house, we are seriously underrated.” I joked.

“When I was your age I got up to all sorts of mischief, like you do.” She said with a smile and a wink. I rolled my eyes. I really liked her, I was happy for Remus. Suddenly a crackle of lightening interrupted our chat and a roar of applause filled the air. We both looked curiously towards the ground to see Harry and Cedric lying on the ground. Harry looked like he was in distress. Cedric wasn’t moving.

“Something’s very wrong.” I muttered. I felt Tonks grabbed my arm and disapperated and apperated near Harry and Cedric. I was used to disapperating with Remus. “Oh God.” I muttered as I realised what was going on. I stood still as a statue. Cedric was dead. He lay there covered in dirt his eyes open with terror. The killing curse had done this. Harry was covering him, rocking him and crying.

“He's back! Voldermort is back!” He kept on screaming over and over again. By now the stadium had quietened down, upon realising the distressing event. It was silent apart from Cedric’s father coming down from the stands.

“My son!” He cried. His pain was coming off in waves. He crouched over his dead child and wept for him. I felt like my heart had stopped. A few tears escaped my eyes. I felt Tonk’s comforting arm around my shoulders. Harry mean while was still screaming that Voldermort had returned. Moody had hold of him and began to pull him away. I looked directly at him in his glass eye. His eyes had the same evil glint. It hit me like a tonne of bricks. He had played me. This was his plan all along. My heart sank dramatically, I tumbled backwards. This was entirely my fault. Cedric’s death, Voldermort’s return. How could I have been so naive?
