Chapter 9.

The world was a blur. Fuzzy images of a black and white floor. Those were the images Adam awoke to. His head was slumped down and his arms were tied behind his back with fabric, presumably the same type as that little thing was wearing. It was a soft fabric, almost like silk, but it was strong. He was sat in the corner of the room.

Before him stood many little people. They looked very similar to the one before. As he looked closely at them, he could tell if they were male or female. It seemed there was an even number, or close enough. Some of them had short hair, some long and some even had no hair at all. There was at least fifty of them in the room, with others hiding behind a few of the doors. Watching.

The one he saw earlier walked over to him. As he saw her face, he noticed she was female. Her eyes were soft, but scared. Her body language showed fear as well, but also some curiosity.

"Are you here to...harm us?" She asked, as she took a step forward. Her voice was quiet, like she was afraid to shout, but it was not as quiet as a whisper.

Adam looked at her and replied, "No. Who are you?" He still wanted to keep his answers short, so as not to scare them.

The young girl hesitated before she spoke. She looked over to one of the males, a leader, and waited for his answer. The leader nodded to her. She accepted the answer and began to answer Adam's question.

"My name is Luna. You said your name was "Adam". Are you....a monster?" Her questions came out carefully, as if she was afraid of the answer.

Adam nodded his head and replied, "Luna, I like that name." Luna seemed to blush a little as he said that. He continued, "I am not a monster. I am a..." He thought for a few moments for the right words, "I am a traveller. I have come to visit this area. Where are we?"

Luna looked into his eyes and explained where they were. "This place was special. It belonged to the "Old Ones" They used to live here. Now we do." She stopped and pointed to herself and her people and then pointed to him.

The leader stood before him and looked at him. It was a form of distrust, but mostly out of fear. He had a walking stick with him, which hinted at his age, and a somewhat stern posture.

"Can we trust you?" He asked, his voice had a gravelly quality to it. "There are monsters out there that want to eat us. Are you one of them?"

Adam shook his head. He wondered how he could be communicating with them, considering the distance he had travelled through time. He guessed it had something to do with that purple dust that was outside of his time machine. He reasoned it was some kind of....translation particle or something similar. It at least let him be able to communicate with Luna, and her to him.

Before anything else could happen, suddenly they heard a loud roar. The little people ran away into their holes. The leader grabbed Luna by the arm, "We have to leave, now!" he said as he pulled her away. She looked back at Adam as she was pulled to safety.

Adam looked around as he struggled to free himself. He was scared of what might come.
