Chapter 40.

Adam walked towards the door. It was locked. The guards were outside, back to the door, and making sure no one escaped them. If anyone did escape, they were permitted to kill the escapee's They relished the idea. They were trained to protect the leader from any, and all, danger.

Within the prison there were two kinds of people: slaves and "others" Slaves were usually people who would be "useful" in some way. Maybe for building work, or looking after the leader. They were also sent out to get food as well. The "others" were traitors, rebels and other beings. Mainly from the upperworld. Creatures like Michael would be taken and kept as "pets", or slaves and maybe they'd just be used for sport. Like Roman Gladiators in the coliseum. It was a sport, for the rich. People like the leader. would make bets and see who wins. No concern for the competitors were made.

The underground was a kind of dystopia. The rich ruled the poor and the poor could do nothing about it. Or at least nothing of value. It was a kind of "fake utopia" it looks nice and sweet on the surface, but scratch deep enough and it was the kind of dark world where any thing would die. Hope and dreams would be lost.

That was probably why the Formation Wars started, Adam thought to himself, because of "Charles" wanting to help his people. But he fell hard. After all "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" as many have said. He probably wanted to help people but lost sight of his vision as the war went on, and once he was transformed into his current state, he may have have lost his humanity.

Adam shook his head. He was only theorising and he may be wrong. He only knew that, for now, he had to escape.

He ran to the door and kicked it open, nearly breaking his foot in the process. He was free.
