Chapter 46.

The spikes before him were deadly. They could probably impale a horse easily. And Adam knew he wasn't a horse.

"These spikes look....tricky. I wonder how i'm gonna get past them." He said to himself. He had never trying to get past spikes before. He wondered if it was as simple as jumping over a log in a forest. It probably wasn't but he liked the idea.

The spikes had come out of the ground and stayed out. They were made of sharpened stone and tied to sticks. He imagined it was the same sort of thing people in the stone age used. It was comforting to know that, even in the future, sometimes the simple solutions were the best. And maybe he'd find one here.

He looked around his surroundings to get a better idea of where he was. It was a long corridor, straight but fairly wide, and the rocks had a blue colour to them. They were smooth, with hardly any jagged edges. The rocks were clearly unscaleable. Adam knew he wasn't getting past the spikes that way. Not without getting hurt anyway.

He looked at his knife. He could try to cut the spikes down, cut the wood and make his way through that way. But that would probably take too long, and by that time he might get captured again. He looked for another way.

He saw a piece of rope above him, dangling from the ceiling. It was in the middle of the spikes. He could grab it and swing across to other side. But he could miss the rope and fall in to the spikes and be killed. He noticed it was just far another for him to jump, but it was impossible to jump all the way to the other side on his own.

"If i missed that jump, i'll be killed. No question about it." He thought to himself, as he sighed heavily. It was the other way he knew how to get over there. He decided to go for it.
