Chapter 30.

The beast pounced at Adam. Adam dodged to the left, his trouser leg getting torn slightly in the process. He fell to the floor with a thump. His left arm took most of the impact. He groaned. This would be a tough battle.

The beast was fairly large. It looked like a kind of Sabertooth tiger or a Lion. It's for coat was smooth and almost brown. It was about five feet long and four feet tall. It's claws were sharp, it could rip through a human in seconds and leave it's entrails upon the floor. It's teeth were razor sharp was well. They could bite straight through a grown man's arm. It's roar was ferocious, like a chainsaw packed into a beast. It's eyes were green, dark green, and narrowed slightly in an ever present glare. It was as if it was looking down on everyone, as if they were only prey. Nothing more and nothing less.

Adam got back up and tried to run at the beast. It dodged him this time and snarled. It was unhappy that it's food was fighting back. It then rushed towards him and tried to slash him. It caught Adams top and ripped it off.

"You are one lethal thing, aren't you?" Adam asked the beast, as he took a few steps back. He had to make a plan. How to defeat it and get into the cave. Preferably without getting injured.

The beast began it's attack again, slashing wildly as it did. It was trying to speed the fight up. It wanted food. Adam kept trying to dodge backwards. He jumped backwards and suddenly crashed into the wall behind him. He banged his head as he did. He fell to the floor and held his head.

The beast was coming up to him, slowly. It knew it's prey was cornered and weakened. It was going to toy with him a little bit, before it eating Adam's body. It licked it's lips happily. Savouring the moment.

Adam looked up. He tried to think of a plan. Nothing came. "I guess I'll just try something then." He thought to himself, as he gripped his knife in his hand. The beast walked up to him and then, a few feet away, it pounced. Adam thrust his knife forward and hit the beast in it's left eye. It fell to the floor in pain with blood pouring out of it's eye socket. The blood was thick and fresh. It's colour was pure red.

Adam closed his eyes. He didn't like the sight of blood, not after what he saw recently, and he felt bad. He had injured the beast, even though it was trying to kill him. The beast looked pitiful on the floor with only one eye.

Adam walked over to it slowly and, in one motion. stabbed the beast in it's head. He killed it with mercy. And then cried.
