i knew that when i got the news i had to go ahead and tell Shawn. I didn't want to keep it from him. it was three o' clock in the morning but I knew he would be up. when i called him he knew something was wrong, but instead of questioning it he came down to the park.

i sat on top of the wooden bench and waited patiently for him. He finally arrived and sat beside me. I took a deep breath and looked at him. His pale skin lit up in the moonlight, his brown hair was messy and stuck to his forehead, he had a maroon sweatshirt on, and black joggers. I felt my chest tighten as i tried to find the right words to say.

"Shawn," his eyes met mine, but I looked away knowing i wouldn't be able to see his reaction, "it's back. the cancer is back." i looked straight ahead of us at the playground. The cool wind was blowing my hair around, and making goosebumps form on my arms. Shawn was silent for a while making me very nervous.

"no, it can't be." he said softly. i looked down at my hands trying not to cry. i looked back over at him to see him already looking at me with glossy eyes. that's when i lost it, tears fell down my face, loud sobs escaped my mouth making my whole body shake. Shawn wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close to him. He laid his head on top of mine as i cried in his arms.

"we'll get through this, just like we did last time." He said rubbing circles on my back.

"But what if we don't shawn. What if I'm not as lucky this time." I said lifting my head off his chest.

"Don't say that y/n. You will be okay. You have to be, because," his voice was loud and stern, "I can't lose you." He said lowering his voice into a softer tone.

I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him tightly, "I love you so much." He mumbled into my shoulder.

"I love you too shawn." I said in a raspy voice. "You're not going to lose me Shawn." I tried to convince him and myself. "You're going to be stuck with me for the rest of your life." I said trying to lighten the mood.

He laughed softly, "I hope so."
