Chapter Two:
The Outside

Training began at 3 a.m sharp every morning and ended at 11 p.m every evening leaving four hours for hunting and killing the older members of the army.

This was Jasper's least favourite time of day as he felt every the newborn's felt. Especially Lucinda, although they hadn't been mated (of which true mates need to make direct eye contact) they were like magnets, one moved and so did the other.

Maria noticed this behaviour and demanded the two to be split but to prevail, they were still one in the same.

If it wasn't for Lucinda's usefulness, she would probably be dead. Her gift is one of a kind, never seen before and Maria wanted to have it all for herself, so she kept Lucinda locked away, leading the others to believe that she perished due to recklessness on the battlefield.

Jasper knew better, he knew she sat in a cell, wasting her days away. He wanted to see her but he felt like he was betraying Maria, whom he had been lead to believe was his mate. But he was starting to question her claims.

Lucinda sat pondering her days away. Questions filled her mind. Did the townsfolk notice my absence? William's absence? She only knew a few things for certain.

Firstly; Vampires are real.
Secondly; She is one.
Thirdly; She's stuck in a cell,
And lastly; She is thirsty.

Her thirst made her thoughts ravenous. Dangerous. Bloodthirsty. All of which could be used to describe the brunette. Jasper felt everything she did, increasing his anger and hatred even more, but he knew Maria lied about Lucinda perishing.

It was about time where Lucinda would receive a small glass of blood. One every month or so for the last eighty or so years. The prisoner lost track of time after a year of being locked away. Days and nights blended into one. Nothing mattered to her anymore.

However, whilst Lucinda had nothing to worry about, Maria was a ball of anxiety, especially since the truth of Jasper's true mate was only minutes away from where she stood. She had been debating Lucinda's existence for almost eighty years but she has finally reached a decision. She must die.

Jasper will kill her.

And that is how Lucinda found her self being dragged out of her cell for the first time in years. Maria had a grip so tight on the younger vampire that a human would be bleeding.

Maria flung open the door to the execution room and whispered something incoherent to Lucinda in her weakened state. As quick as Maria entered, she left. The door still wide open.
