Chapter Thirty-Eight:
Home for OneThe Cullen house was empty, the residents and their guest were waiting for the newborns to arrive, the latter hoping for a bloody fight. However, Lucinda could feel a small object burning through the floors of the home: the ring.
She said yes, but refused to take the ring (much to Jasper's protests as she felt it held too much history for her to take. Nadine was the most excited, and having killed a couple drunk men ( with A- blood type, naturally) the night before, was the strongest out of the lot.
And then they came hoards of newborns. Lucinda, staying by Jaspers side, decapitated a brunette girl, aged no more than twelve or thirteen. A pang of guilt surged through her before she focused on her next target.
Stopping for a moment, Alice looked around the battlefield. Bodies dropping left, right and centre. Mates were fighting together, and the one with mate across the world had the most kills that day. She was still muttering to herself as she fought.
She finally pieced everything together, but as Alice realised what happened William shook her back to reality. "Victoria's going after Bella!"
"She has Edward," William said as he ripped off the limbs of a newborn, "Luce, can you warm it up over here!"
An "on it" came from the other side of the field. No more than a second later, the decapitated newborn vampires were a storm of flames, as red as blood and as warm as the pits if Hell — their final resting place.
It was over.
The fight was over. They no longer had to kill anymore. The life that had fought to protect was safe. They had done their job.
The Cullen's looked around at each other with a look of sombre and sadness at all the destruction they caused. On the other hand, Nadine was smiling like the Cheshire cat from the old novel she loves. Killing was her forte and she loved everything second of it.
It wasn't long before Edward and an unconscious Bella came down to the pitch. The family huddled around her, waiting for the harsh reality of living to come back to her.
"Thanks for covering me back there, Luci," Will said to his best friend as the watched the human, "your powers are pretty useful."
No sooner than two minutes after Bella woke up from fainting and being 'reunited' with the Cullen Clan and Lucinda going to stand by her, the ever so familiar shadows of the Volturi came from the forest surrounding them.
Silence filled the field, the atmosphere cold although Lucinda's fires raged on in the distance. A young girl had been saved the clan, Jasper keeping her away from Isabella with Nadine next to Lucinda.
The Volturi guards didn't focus on them though, they didn't even register their presence as their sole focus and reason for being in Forks was Bella. They had heard an army had come to kill her and wanted to check on her current form, whether it be human or vampire, alive or undead. And it was, much to Jane's entertainment the former.
"Jane," Edward greeted as he shielded Bella behind him.
"Edward," She responded, keeping her cold and calculating image, "you missed one."
"We offered her asylum for her surrender," Carlisle spoke for the first time, defending his and Esme's choices. The girl, Bree, shifted uncomfortably as all the attention shifted to her.
"That wasn't yours to offer," Jane look directly at the newborn as she started to use her gift, "Who sent you?"
"You don't need to do that! She will tell you anything you want to!" Esme cried out, upset from seeing the young girl suffering from others actions.
"I know," Jane offered, allowing the coven to explain what had happened. And so Edward did. He spoke of Victoria and her demise. After he stopped, Jane took this as a cue to change the subject, "Caius will be interested to know that the girl remains human."
"Will he?" Andi asked, making her presence blatantly obvious to the guards of which she considers family and for the first time in that meeting, the guards were speechless. Silence filled the field once again and she took this as an opportunity to speak again, "I asked a question if you could be so kind and to answer it thank you very much."
Jane too a wary step forward, "Of course, my lady. In Volterra, not so long ago-"
"I know! I've heard it a million and one times. Just tell me why you are bringing this up now," Nadine snapped, as much as she loved Jane it did not mean that she didn't like to mess with her either.
"T-t-to remind them of their deadline." Jane stuttered out as Alec walked forward to place a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"Okay, brilliant! Let's go, I am coming with you," Nadine said, finally ready to go home after all these millennia.
The Cullen's had a mixed reaction to the news of Andi's departure. Rosalie and Emmett looked a bit sad, Jasper, Lucinda, Edward, Carlisle and Esme look relieved that she would be with her mate once again, Alice was lost in her visions to notice anything and William was looking down to her unaware that Andi was leaving.
Bella, however, had a problem, "No! You can't go with them, Andi. They're evil."
"Bella, Bella, Bella," Nadine replied in an almost scolding way, "Who do you think taught them that?"
"Caius! He is as evil as it gets."
"Did I ever tell you who I married," she said as she took off a ring from her right hand and played with it. She offered Bella the ring and it didn't tell the human long to notice initials engraved inside.
"'C.V. Caius Volturi. But then who is 'N.C'?"
"Nadine Clair," Demitri spoke up, making the Volturi at the forefront of there minds again, "Andi is a shortened version of Nadine."
Bella's solemn look told Nadine all she needed to know, and she took it as her cue to leave with her guards, back to her city of dreams.
