Chapter Fifty-Two:
Red-Coats

The snow crunched under Lucinda's feet as she tried to ignore the thought of facing the Volturi without Jasper. She know knew how he felt when she left and she hated herself for it.

And the worst part was, for Lucinda anyway, that if she was going to die today, she would never be able to say goodbye. Looking around, she saw mates saying their potentially last 'I love you.'

She stood next to Andi, "Caius will kill you for this."

"I know."

"Or never speak to you again."

"I know," she said, just as nonchalant as the first time. It had crossed her mind that Caius wouldn't speak to her again for this, but Andi could be persuasive, "You're cheerful today."

"Yup. I finally get to die."

Andi laughed at the deprecating joke, used to them by being around Luci. "You need to stop!"

"Living? I know I do-"

Lucinda was cut of by Garrett mumbling "The red coats are coming! The red coats are coming"

And then she saw them. If it was in any other circumstance, she would have been completely mesmerized by the beauty and strength the Volturi radiated as they walked into the snowy field. It was like it was out of a movie, their cloaks reflected upon the crisp snow. The mix of black and white creating a soft grey glow around the entire coven and their witnesses. It screamed power.

"Nadine!" Caius called, slightly uneased by seeing his wife standing on the opposing side of his cause, "Come here my dear."

"Not until you let the child live."

"With the army the Cullen's have built against us?" Aro interjected, his voice as cold as the snow he stood upon. His guard grumble in what seemed like agreement but the marble faces gave away no emotion.

Carlisle stepped forwards, signalling Andi to retreat away from the front line and towards Esme as a replacement protection as he talked. Aro's eyes dimmed slightly as he knew that an old friend was going against him in opinions, something that had rarely happened to the raven haired king.

Carlisle began to explain about his witnesses; how he never, and still doesn't, want a fight. Andi and Caius both scoffed at this whilst Lucinda rolled her eyes as she knew at least ninety percent of people witnessing for the Cullen's wouldn't mind ripping off a Volturi's head.

After Renesmee was summoned to the king, Lucinda and Jacob trailed behind her, Bella and Edward. Lucinda was Renesmee's protection.

"Magnifico!" Aro giggled as he read the thoughts Renesmee allowed him to read, "half mortal, half immortal. A true hybrid with such power."

"Yes," Edward agreed, "Renesmee was born not bitten."

"With her mate aswell. But why is this beautiful lady escorting Renesmee to see me, I don't believe we have been acquainted my dear?"

Looking up, Lucinda knew she had to speak to him, no matter how reluctant she was. "My name is Lucinda Cullen."

"May I?" Aro asked but it was more of a demand as he held out his hand; he wanted to steal her thoughts.
