Chapter Thirty-One:
The tragedies in which fire consumed

Dusk or dawn? Right and wrong? Light or dark? The balances seemed less stable than before when Lucinda first experienced vampirism. Instead of looking at the definite black and white, or even the grey areas, she now looked at the specks of colour in the spectrum.

'I look in your eyes and I can see
We've loved so dangerously
You're not trusting your heart to anyone'

Lucinda's melodic voice rang out, rivaling the ones of bird calls and a siren's song.

'You tell me you're gonna play it smart
We're through before we start
But I believe that we've only just begun'

The grass was most definitely greener on the living side of the realms. Sounds no longer echoed at every opportunity and life seemed real.

'When it's this good, there's no saying no
I want you so, I'm ready to go'

The roads leading into Forks, Washington were tedious to drive down, even when speeding by about fourty-six miles per hours over the given speed limit. The Olympic coven grew closer to their home by the minute.

'Through the fire
To the limit, to the wall
For a chance to be with you
I'd gladly risk it all'

The small Nokia in the levitators hand buzzed, signalling a text from Alice. They had arrived in Italy.

'Through whatever, come what may
For a chance at loving you
I'd take it all the way
Right down to the wire
Even through the fire'

The walk from the lake to the Cullen household was short, but Lucinda took her time, listening to the old trucks pass by on the nearest road.

'I know you're afraid of what you feel
You still need time to heal
And I can help if you'll only let me try'

Lucinda, deciding to be lazy, leaped through the living room window instead of using the front door, arriving home at last.

'You touch me and something in me knew
What I could have with you
Well I'm not ready to kiss that dream goodbye'

Swinging open the door, the majority of the Cullen clan walked through the entrance to their Forks residence, taking in the homely scent but only with a hint of something else: vanilla.

'When it's this sweet, there's no saying no
I need you so, I'm ready to go'

At once they dropped their bags and tried to figure out where the scent was coming from.

'Through the fire
To the limit, to the wall
For a chance to be with you
I'd gladly risk it all
Through the fire'

Lucinda's footsteps were light as she strolled downstairs when she heard banging on the wooden floors in the foyer. She knew that it couldn't be Bella and Alice and she most definitely locked the door.

'Through whatever, come what may
For a chance at loving you
I'd take it all the way
Right down to the wire
Even through the fire'

The footsteps would be silent to a human, but for the clan of vampires it was as clear as day. As they got louder and closer, the coven prepared quickly by getting into fighting stances, reading to attack on a moments notice.

'Through the test of time'

And then she saw him.

'Through the fire
To the limit, to the wall
For a chance to be with you'

And he saw her.

'I'd gladly risk it all
Through the fire
Through whatever, come what may
For a chance at loving you
I'd take it all the way
Right down to the wire
Even through the fire'

"What the fuck?"
