Chapter Nine
Garrett

Regret was an emotion that Garrett was all to familiar with. He fought in countless wars in the American west, winning almost all and yet never finding companionship in someone else, vampire or human.

Regret is what filled Lucinda's veins, it fuelled her actions and it was what kept her motivated to continue the training to master her ability before it got out if control. Her emotions were the basis of her power and they were uncontrollable and dangerous.

New York, the big apple and the city if dreams, was were the nomad was feeding upon a young woman, no younger than twenty, draining her of life. Lucinda smelled the blood, but the drug diluted was not ambrosia to her, but still, she came to the site, knowing that Carlisle would be proud.

And then she saw him — A tall, rangy vampire with eager ruby eyes and long sandy hair he kept back with a leather thong. And it was apparent immediately that he was an adventurer.

Looking up, Garrett realised that he had a bystander. Gesturing his hand toward the dying girl, he offered Lucinda the last of her blood. Confusing him when she declined.

"There's another way, you know," She said, making Garrett cock his head to the side. How could a vampire not survive on blood? "Lucinda, if you were wondering. It also gets rid of the red eyes, makes you blend in more."

"I have been alive for many years to know a statement like that, and the help you are implying, has a cost. The name is Garrett, what's your price?" Garrett said, intrigued by the golden eyed vampire that stood before him.

"You obviously have control," Lucinda stated, receiving a nod from the nomad in reply, "help me control myself and I will help you with what I said before."

To say that the nomad wasn't interested in the girl's lifestyle would be a lie. He wanted to know this way to survive. He wanted to know this girl- no woman who vaguely looked to be a goddess.

  "And if I say yes?"

"You could live among humans. You could be happy. Find love. Live your life, guilt free."

Guilty was an emotion that Garrett was all to familiar with. He fought countless wars with himself, winning nearly all bar one. He never found solitude in his own mind.

  "Deal."

Training began immediately, and all though the two had different things to control and learn, their motives were the same: they wanted to be better people, to be happy and to live a life worth living.

They first thing they decided to do was to feed on animals exclusively. And eventually, the nomadic warrior picked up on the ways of the vegetarian hunting.

Lucinda told Garrett about her family. About her sisters and their love and passion for using he as a human Barbie doll. About her brothers love for sparring. Carlisle and Esme were briefly mentioned but the main spotlight went onto her mate.

She dove into telling stories about their short time traveling together. How they danced under stars, swimming in the ocean and midnight drives on abandoned roads.

And in turn, Garrett finally found someone who he could trust with his past. Someone who knew the pain of newborn and human armies. He could talk to her for hours, but he knew her heart didn't settle with him.
