Chapter Fourteen:
Blurred together

Rain pattered against the cove window, gaining strength and volume as time consumed itself. It was fall, or autumn as it was referenced to in Manchester and all over the country of England, so storms like to one that was brewing were all too common. Lucinda had only just been in time to get inside before the thunder and lightning had started. The animals were burrowed away from the weather in pursuit to keep dry — and the ones who didn't ended up as prey.

He could hear the fire crackled from the outside of the cottage that was lined with the beautiful rose bushes. As he walked up to the door, he caught the scent of lilies and grapefruit: his beloved. Frozen in the moment, his thoughts sped at a million miles per hour.

What if? He thought. What if she has moved on. What if she doesn't want me back. Was I overly harsh. What if?

As his thoughts became darker and less hopeful, the rain for filling its promise of a storm. A clap of thunder passed through the air, not before lightning had struck.

Whilst Jasper was waiting on one side of the door, Lucinda had gravitated towards her end when she heard someone lurking in the shadows. Although their presence was apparent, the levitator found it comforting and uplifting, almost just almost taking away the pain she had been burdened with since she had left all those years ago.

He tapped on the door thrice, and not even a few seconds later he saw her. Brunette hair wet and wavy from the storm. Red lips that seemed so kissable. Every inch of her look the same but what he found most noticeable was the golden eyes absorbing every inch of him.

She went to speak but was silenced by his touch, his kiss. It was hungry, quick and wanting at the beginning but soon it melted into a slow, passionate, loving way.

Walking (and still kissing) back into the house, Jasper slammed the door shut, not caring about the lamp they knocked over just moments ago. For the first time in just under a century, they were both drunk in the love they held for each other as tonight was about them and them only.

The fire was dim with age, but it still held a purity about it that the vampires had lost long, long ago: the ability to die out. They could no longer have the key to humanity as death highlights the achievements each person makes and if we live forever, everything blurs together.

He held her like she had would never be held again, as if it was their last day together instead of their first reunited. A blanket wrapped around them, binding the together, as if they were not close as they could possibly be. The pain within was gone as the mating bond had not only been strengthened by being together once more, but because the two soulmates connected in ways that they hadn't before.

"Luce," Jasper started not knowing where the words were going so silence adjoined to the nickname.

"What's wrong," she said, looking towards him, worry glazing her eyes.

"Nothing," Jasper replied. He took a deep breath and continued, Lucinda filling in with nods and murmurs where appropriate, "You know I love you, right? I shouldn't have let you- No. stop trying to tell me it isn't -it is my fault. I shouldn't have let you leave, not in the way I did. You're my Firestarter and I knew you were scared, but I let my fear of losing you consume me. And yet, now that we have been apart for so long, it has made my love and desire for you grow even more. I am sorry, Darlin', I truly am. Forgive me please."

"It is I who should be asking- no begging for your forgiveness. I shouldn't have left in such a manner as I did. And as I stated in my letter, I don't regret leaving, but leaving in the way I did. If you will have me back, I would love to return home with you."

Jasper only replied with a nod whilst pulling his lover closer.
