Chapter Eleven:
Confession

Lucinda gazed at the moon, wanting to return home but not knowing where home is. It wasn't with the nomad who had become a dear friend to her, nor did she feel welcome with the Cullen's anymore. Lost in thought she didn't notice Garrett walk up behind her, looking at her longing. He had decided that tonight, tonight he would confess everything.

When he gestured for her to follow him, confusion fell over the younger vampire. She wanted to question him but decided against it when he made no effort to talk to her as they ventured into the moonlit forest.

It was only when they reached the waterfall did Garrett stop and yet he didn't speak, he just stood, waiting. He waited for a while until he slid his arm around her waist. However, Lucinda quickly removed his arm and as she turned to face him, her expression turned sour.

"Cin-" he began, but corrected himself when he saw the rage in her eyes, "Lucinda, for many a year now, you have intrigued me. I want your permission."

"My permission for what?" She said, quickly losing her temper with him. She thought that they were friends, in total agreement with this arrangement and they had been friends for nearly three years now. Lucinda wanted to know the reason for this sudden change.

"Miss Lucinda Hill, I want permission to be the holder of your heart. I want to devour you and your love. I want this bond we have to never die. I want our love for each other to consume us, consume me. And I want your permission for me to love you, publicly."

He said it. He actually said it. The weight of the world finally seemed as light as a feather. However, Lucinda felt that weight transferred onto herself. Had she not made it clear that she wanted only a friend out of the nomad.

"Garrett, I think your thoughts have consumed you. I have given my heart to another." She stated, staying loyal to her beloved.

"So?" He began, persistent to make her see his line of logic. To him, Lucinda was his only key to happiness. To him, Lucinda was the literal embodiment of the goddess Athena, "I don't see him here, proclaiming his love for you. In all honesty, I believe he doesn't care for you."

"Enough!" She snapped, "Get it through your thick skull that I don't want to be with you."

Lucinda was beyond mad, she could feel he control begin to slip away. She turned and walked away, or as far as five paces before she was pulled back. Three calming breaths later, she glared at Garrett.

"Please, let me love you." He begged, wanting nothing more than to explore every single corner of Lucinda. Wanting nothing more than to steal the last little piece of her innocence for himself.

"How about this," she began, making Garrett raise his eyebrow, believing that she finally caved and realised that there was a spark between them, no matter how imaginary it truly was, "I'll spell it out for you. F - R - I - E - N - D - S. Friends. And I swear to God if you follow me, being lonely will be the last of your issues. Goodbye."

Before he could respond, a small breeze told him that she had left, heading out on a new adventure. He slumped against the nearest tree, breaking down into a tearless sob.

Why do the ones who love us, inevitably leave us?
