Chapter Eight:
Enough
Once again, days, nights and everything on between morphed together for Lucinda. The Cullen home feeling restrictive as Carlisle recommended that they don't leave the house. But his recommendation, in the young levitator's eyes, was more of a demand than a suggestion.
Of course she held some of the highest respect for the coven leader and his ability to deny himself of his true nature, but Lucinda had never slipped upon her new diet yet. The containment made her feel as if she was under Maria's control once more and yet she couldn't bring herself to complain, leaving the want and desire to leave bubble up inside, waiting to explode.
Alice kept tabs on the future of her family, so it shocked her when a vision filled her mind. One of broken glass, a tearless sob and a group of faceless people in sorrow. Sharing a look of concern with Edward (the latter replying with a shrug,) she buried the thought, not to deep, but not leaving on on the surface.
The bronze-haired mind reader began shifting through the minds of his coven, searching for anything and everything that would correlate with Alice's vision. Nothing concerning appeared until he went diving into the thoughts of his new sister.
Numerous things were flying through her head, nearly giving Edward whiplash. Things like: Locked away; Maria's control; stolen; help; leave.
Lucinda wanted to leave, and that was apparent to Edward. He was conflicted, over the few weeks they had known each other, they had grown close, as if they were biological siblings and not adopted. He wanted to protect Lucinda (or Cindy as he called her, much to Lucinda's dismay) but he never considered that she may hurt herself, even by accident.
"I cannot do this," Lucinda grumbled in annoyance. She was trying to master her gift, but it seemed like every time she tried, her previous progress was slightly erased, making her control worse, "I'm useless."
Jasper's attention was on his mate. He couldn't believe she just said that. To him, Lucinda was the embodiment of perfection; a real life Aphrodite. A goddess in every way possible, and yet she found flaws within herself.
"Don't lie, Darlin'" Jasper started, hoping to change her view of herself, "You are not useless, in fact you are quite the opposite. When I saved you, you in turn, saved me and that isn't useless. You have brought me joy and that isn't useless. However, you doubt yourself with your abilities and just because you haven't mastered them yet doesn't mean you won't. Don't give up on this, or yourself become you're my everything and I'd be damned without you."
Lucinda looked down, she didn't believe that she deserved his praise. She didn't even believe that she deserved a true gentleman like Jasper. She believes that her deserved better than the failure that she saw of herself.
"I can't control it though."
"How hard can a gift be to control?" Jasper said, getting a little annoyed. It was only a gift after all.
"Very. Especially since it is emotionally controlled. What if I hurt someone? Kill someone? What if-"
"EXACTLY! They are what ifs, not certain," Jasper snapped, he didn't realise how much she hated herself about her gift.
Lucinda walked over to the window to stand next to Rosalie. Feeling bitter, the blonde haired female decided to contribute to this argument, "Why don't you leave then? If you think you're going to hurt us?"
Since there arrival, Rosalie warmed up to Lucinda when she realised that she wasn't going to harm her family. As it turns out, they got along swimmingly. She didn't mean any malice in her suggestion.
Lucinda pondered over Rosalie's idea for a moment before deciding what would be best.
"Jasper," Lucinda said quietly, "Can't you see that I am scared of this power. Of myself? I think it might be best if I-"
"No. No you can't leave me," Jasper voice cracked as he realised that he may lose his soulmate. His world was about to slip through his fingers and escape, "I'm your mate."
"Only until I get control. Please."
"Fine. Go." He didn't mean to snap. He just couldn't help it, his anger fuelled his actions and he instantly regretted it when Lucinda stormed out of the room. He was about to follow her when Rosalie stopped him.
She was right, Lucinda needed control and this home, this family was too full of emotions to be of any help. The only way was for Lucinda to leave, even if it was only a month or a millennium.
As she said goodbye to everyone only ten minutes later, Jasper felt empty as he only received a nod as she left, leaving him in his misery and guilt.
