Chapter Three:
Mated.

Jasper shut the door behind her, the newborn cowered away from the Major, backing herself into the corner. The empath could feel the fear radiating off of her, he looked up towards the girl, making eye contact and suddenly everything shifted.

Almost like love at first sight, except it wasn't. Gravity was moving for the pair, it was no longer holding Jasper Whitlock down on Earth, she was. He wants to be anything for her, and vice versa. She was everything Maria claimed to be.

It became apparent to Jasper that he had been lied to, his whole vampiric existence was a lie.

Lucinda, on the other hand, felt like the waiting she had endured for most of her life had finally concluded. She hadn't felt so fixed since she fell apart at her mother's funeral.

The Major walked towards the cowering girl and placed his hand on her cheek, lifting her face to look at him once more.

"Please," the brunette begged, "just make it quick."

"Make what quick?" The elder vampire was confused to say the least. That was until he came back to reality. They were in the room of executions, he was the executioner and she was to be executed.

He knew he duties, but now, looking into Lucinda's eyes, he knew that he had been lied to. He knew he wasn't mated to Maria. And he certainly knew that his mate, his true mate had to live.

"Ma'am, I know this sounds strange, but I wont hurt you," Jasper begins but is cut off by Lucinda scoffing, "I can promise you."

"So Imma just leave now, I need to get out unless you are lying."

"Ma'am," Jasper said in his southern drawl, "you cannot leave without me."

"And why not?" Lucinda crossed her arms, getting more annoyed by the minute. She didn't want to be annoyed with him, she found that confusing.

"Because, Miss..." He started, waiting for the name of his mate. Lucinda mumbled her name, only just loud enough for him to hear. "Miss Lucinda, my friends, of which I helped escape, are returning tonight at twilight to collect me also. I am sure you will be able to come."

Instead of responding verbally, Lucinda just nodded her head. She knew it was either this or leaving by herself. She was not willing to take her chances just yet.

Rain pattered against the window, Lucinda used to stop and listen when she was doing her chores. But now, now she felt calmed by it. Her thoughts clear, unlike the skies.
