Rebeca’s Point of View

One of my longtime friends Rydel was driving me to her house to stay for the weekend, “My brothers have a few people at the house because Mom and Dad aren’t home, it should be fun,” She said to me, turning in to the driveway. I had seen Rydel often, but hadn’t seen her brothers in a long time. I was nervous to see Ross most of all. Back when we were younger, fifteen and sixteen, Rydel wasn’t home for some reason and Ross offered that I could stay and wait for her. We got to talking and before you knew it, he kissed me. It was the best kiss I’ve ever had, even until this day, and now that we’re older, maybe he’s excited to see me too.

I got out of the car and started walking up the driveway to the garage. Riker and Ross were talking to a girl, ‘Here goes nothing,’ I thought, stepping over to them. “Rebeca,” Riker smiled, excitedly and hugged me. “Hey guys, it’s so great to see you, it’s been forever!” I turned to Ross, who’s mouth hung open, “Rebeca you look,” He paused, “Beautiful,” I smiled, “Thanks,” I stood against the garage door, talking up with Riker about how University was going and how much I loved it. Ross stood awfully close to me on one side, listening intently to our conversation without saying a word. “Yeah, it’s pretty great there,” Riker commented.

“I’m just really happy that its summer vacation, it’s great to be back home for a while,” I sighed. Riker started to say something but I became distracted from a hand pushing mine over a bit. I looked to Ross for a moment, and he smiled innocently, turning his attention back to Riker. He continued to talk and Ross’ hand trailed back to mine, this time putting his fingers through mine and holding it there. I shook free, ‘Why is he trying to hold my hand,’ Riker looked down, “Everything okay there?” “Yeah,” I said cautiously. I put my hands behind my back and continued to listen to Riker talk.

Ross slipped behind me, resting his head on my shoulder and watching Riker as I was. He pulled my hands free of their clasp and took them in his from behind me, intertwining his fingers with mine and he giggled. “Can we get you settled?” Riker asked me. “Sure,” I smiled, pulling free of Ross and going with Riker to get my bag, shooting Ross a look. Riker took me up to the guest room, “What’s up with Ross?” He asked, “Seems like he likes you,” I blushed, “He’s just flirty,” I shrugged. Riker looked at me like I had four eyes, “Um, no, it looks like he likes you; he hasn’t stopped talking about you since Rydel told us you were staying the weekend.” I looked down, “Really?”

He nodded, “I’d let him down easy Rebeca, he’s been in love with you since he was sixteen.” I smiled lightly, getting up with him and walking back down the stairs where all of the Lynches, Ellington, and a couple of their friends were playing monopoly. “Yes!” Ryland yelled, “Ross, you owe me 60 in taxes dude,” Ross looked up to give him the money and saw me standing at the bottom of the stairs, “Rebeca! Come sit here,” He smiled, patting the seat next to him. I sat down smiling, ‘How am I supposed to do this. I like him too,’ I watched them play the game.

Rydel and Rocky cooked dinner and then we all sat down for a movie. “Let’s watch something scary!” Rocky suggested, “Ugh, I hate scary movies,” Rydel whined, “Same here,” I said. “It’s okay, I’ll protect you,” Ross smiled, pulling me closer to him on the couch. Rocky put in some movie about demons taking over a city and it was creepy as all get out. I cringed at the movie, covering my eyes and squealing. The boys all laughed at our scared reactions. Half way through the movie, Ross moved his hand to rest on mine. I looked up at him and he smiled, returning his brown eyed gaze to the movie. Rydel paused the movie moments after, getting frustrated groans from the boys, “I have to use the bathroom and I don’t want to miss anything!” She said, getting up. Ellington turned on a light and Ross looked down at our hands, now completely intertwined and pale from me squeezing it when it got scary. “I need more popcorn, can I refill anyone else?” He asked, jumping up. Everyone handed him their bowls and he turned to me, “Rebeca, help me?” I nodded, getting up to go with him. Rocky looked at us curiously and Riker gave me a thumbs up, like I was going to tell Ross I didn’t like him right then and there.

Ross set the popcorn in the microwave and pressed start, leaving us to sit and wait. He turned to me swiftly as I sat on the kitchen counter. He slowly made his way over to me, smirking. “Hi,” He whispered from next to me. “Well, hello,” I said smiling to him, “Mind to tell me why your hand keeps finding its way to mine?” He shrugged at my question. “I guess it tends to wander to where it’s most comfortable.” He smiled, standing in front of me, only inches away from my face. ‘This is where we were,’ I thought, ‘He kissed me 3 years ago right here in this kitchen,’ I looked down at the memory, knowing what was coming next. “Rebeca,” He whispered, making me look up just in time for him to press his lips against mine harshly, cupping my face in his hands and biting my lower lip.

“Ross,” I whispered, pulling myself closer to him, opening my legs just little so he could slip in between them to kiss me again. My hands moved to grab the back of his hair, making him smirk into my mouth. The popcorn timer went off, making us both jump. Ross backed away, wiping his lip and taking the popcorn out of the microwave. “Is the popcorn ready?” Rocky yelled from the living room. “Yeah,” I said, “We’re bringing it in a sec,” I yelled back to him. I hopped off of the counter and smirked at Ross, holding the bowls of popcorn. I leaned in and kissed his cheek, making him do his closed mouth smile as we walked into the living room the deliver the popcorn.

Riker looked at me curiously as I returned and I gave him a thumb up sign in response. He smiled back at me and I took my seat to watch the rest of the movie. Ross sighed, putting his hand in mine and smiling as I rested my head on his shoulder. ‘Might as well give it a try,’ I told myself, looking up to see his face. The lights went off and the movie began again and with everyone else mesmerized by the haunting film, Ross snuck in one more kiss.
