"Does anyone want me?" I ask, tugging at Mrs. Eliza's skirt. She's standing above me, a baby in her arms. When she sees me, she looks down sadly. I already know what that look means, "It's okay," I mumble, "No one ever wants me..." Mrs. Eliza places the baby down and gets on my level.

As she speaks, she plays with my shoulder-length hair, "Oh, Alex, I would take you if I could. You're a great kid, but I have too many already. You'll find parents, okay? I promise." I smile, jumping up on my heels. I just wanted to leave and cry.

Finally, Eliza let go of me and I sprinted back to my bedroom. It was a small room that I shared with one other six-year-old; Thomas Jefferson. His parents died in a car crash. He never talks to me.

I sit down on my bottom bunk and start to cry. I tell myself everything I don't want to hear and can't stop it. My crying is crazy, tears spilling everywhere and my legs just flailing around. I just want a family! I hear the door open, but I just think it's Mrs. Eliza or another staff member.

Until.

"Alex?"

"T-Thomas?" I turned around, my tears still falling. Thomas walks up to me, wiping my tears away with the pad of his thumbs. As he does this, I continue to sniffle and scoot closer to him until I'm hugging him and he's hugging me.

"Please don't cry." He whispers to me, hugging me tighter. Thomas was a year older than me, seven-years-old.

"Will I ever find parents?" I ask him, pulling away.

He thinks for a second and lets go of me. I sniffle and watch him grab a flower from a plant on a table and place it in my hair. When he's done, my sniffling has lowered down a bit, "You'll definitely find someone!" He exclaims, hugging me once again.

"Thank you." I say, blushing.

"Alexander, will you marry me?" Thomas gets on his knees. I look around. We're on a boat, the sun going down behind us. It's a private boat decorated by Thomas with confetti everywhere. We're in the sea near Ellis Island. We had been eating when Thomas called me to the side of the boat. He wore a suit and took out the box.

"Yes!" I screamed, jumping at him. Thomas swiftly closed the box and stood up so I could hug him correctly. Once I was in the protection of his strong arms, Thomas spoke.

"I told you that you would find someone. I wasn't lying, was I?"
