Alex could hear the people talking outside his office and wondered what it would be like if he were them. If he gave up work and instead talked to people. The thought of it made him wince. Socializing. Ew.
"Hamilton!" A hard knock was heard at Alex's door, along with the gruff voice of George Washington, "It's time for a cabinet meeting."
Alex nodded to himself, knowing he would have to get ready to face Thomas Jefferson. He had only seen him around once and they both despised other. Or at least, Alex chose to believe that. The blushing he gave Thomas may have suggested something else though.
A brewing romance.
"I'll be there in a moment." Alex called to Washington. He listened as the president could be heard walking away from his door. As soon as the noise of Washington disappeared, Alex grabbed a pen and paper and left the office. He had decided not to walk with Washington simply because he wasn't in a talking mood.
However, that would have to change at the cabinet meeting.
Alex had never been in a cabinet meeting with Thomas Jefferson, meaning he had to ready to expect anything. Thomas could be a terrible debater or he could be an expert at it. Alex didn't know anything about the man besides the fact that everyone was falling for him. Even James Madison.
Reaching the door to the conference room, Alex sucked in his breath.
He opened the door.
Alex was met with the sight of a long table and many people. In the crowd of people, he could see George Washington, James Madison, and, of course, Thomas Jefferson. As he walked by, trying to get to Mr. Washington, some people cheered and moved aside for him and others glared and booed.
"Mr. President." Alex delcared as he reached the place where George was standing.
"Alexander," George smiled and turned around, "Thomas! Come meet Alexander. Properly this time. Last time you two barely said a word to each other."
Pushing his way through the crowd, Thomas appeared. On his beautiful face was a smirk. His hair was extra gorgeous and standing up even better than usual. Alex blushed as soon as Thomas layed eyes on him.
George, not noticing Alex's face, pulled Alex closer to Thomas until they were only a foot apart.
"Alexander, Thomas. Thomas, Alexander."
"Hi." Alex spoke softly, looking away from Thomas's face and rather straight ahead, at his chest.
"Hello." Thomas grabbed Alex's chin and forced him to look up at him, pulling him closer as a result. Alex looked up at him with large eyes and a blush on his face.
George looked at the two of them for a moment before sighing.
"Let us began the meeting!" He yelled loud enough so everyone in the room could hear.
"Okay." Alexander said weakly. No one could hear him but himself.
The two men sat on either side of Washington, looking out at the yelling crowd. Each person in the crowd was either for Thomas or Alexander- no in between.
"Secretary Hamilton's plan to assume state debt and establish a national bank. Secretary Jefferson. You have the floor, sir."
Alex looked at Thomas as he stood up with curious eyes. Thomas looked back with strong eyes that made Alex want to blush. Luckily, he kept the blush in. If he hadn't, the headlines would be crazy, 'Alexander Hamilton blushed at Thomas Jefferson?!'
"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," Thomas began, "I wrote these words. The people who fought for our freedom want these words to be true. Everyone wants these words to be true. We didn't fight for nothing, Alexander. Besides, who does Hamilton's plans benefit? Hamilton."
One part of the crowd cheered. Alex was beginning to get worried. Thomas was quite good at debating, unlike what Alex wanted to believe.
"That's all I have to say." Thomas sat down, crossing his legs with his arms folded. On his face, a confident smirk. He looked over at Alex, waiting for him to look back with fierce look on his face.
"Thank you, Jefferson. Secretary Hamilton." Washington looked at Alex, signaling for him to get up.
But Alex didn't. He didn't stand. He stayed in his seat, looking down at the floor.
"Hamilton." Washington said again.
Alex stood.
For a moment, silence. No one spoke. Thomas stared at Alex, his face getting hot. No one had ever seen Alex this quiet before.
However, all silence ends eventually.
Thomas's fans began yelling at Alex and throwing food at him.
Alex was done.
He ran out of the room.
The yelling continued. Washington stood in front of the crowd, ushering them to stop. He looked at Thomas with an urgent look in his eyes. The look pretty much said, "Go look for Alex and make sure he's okay."
So Thomas did.
[ALEX'S POV (POINT OF VIEW)]
The supply closet I was in was cramped and small. And quiet. I always hated quiet. But for some reason, I liked it right now. It was beautiful. I knew someone- either Thomas or Washington- was out looking for me. I hoped it wasn't Thomas. Thomas hated me. I didn't want to spill any wrong feelings out to him, even though I did have a tiny crush on him.
~~~
The door knob jiggled. I froze. I stopped shaking. I pulled my legs away from me, kicking a bucket while I was at it.
"Great, whoever is out there now knows you're in there." I told myself.
"Alex, let me in!" Thomas. It was Thomas.
Unlike Washington, he was probably strong enough to open the door. Whatever. I would let it happen.
~~~
It did happen.
He opened the door, took one look at me, and embraced me.
I whimpered. He pulled me away from him and I could feel his stare. Closing my eyes, I turned away. Unfortunately, he pulled me back into the hug. I whimpered again. This time, he didn't stare at me.
Thomas was warm. I wanted to stay in his embrace forever, even though I knew he was the reason I was like this.
"I'm sorry." He whispered into my ear.
"I'm useless." My hand flew up to rest on his chest. Slowly, it fell down until it was back at my side.
"You have a use," Thomas grabbed my hand again and bit my ear, making me whine, "Want me to show you what I could use you for?"
"I'd be happy to." The smile returned to my face as I faced him. Thomas Jefferson.
You don't want to know what happened next.
