"You ready?" Thomas asked his best friend softly, wrapping the last piece of the scarf around Alexander's neck and spinning the boy around. Alexander only nodded, yawned, and put out his hand for Thomas to take. They were taking an early morning trip to the grocery store as they were out of chips to binge eat.

"I'm tired. Can't I go back to sleep?" Alex wondered aloud. Thomas's hold on Alexander's hand tightend, his over-protectiveness for his best friend beginning to show.

"I don't want to leave you alone... You know how some people are."

Alex giggled as the two walked out the door, onto the plain street, "You're so overprotective of me. This is why people think we're dating." Thomas's face turned red with embarrassment. So did Alex's, but he couldn't tell. The scarf hid it very well.

Deciding not to answer, Thomas kept walking.

Alex layed his head on Thomas's shoulder as they walked past the bar, and that was exactly where their chill morning walk got out of hand.

"Faggots!"

Alex was nearly asleep when Thomas yanked his arm away and turned to the man with an angry look on his face. Immediately, Alex's face lit up a bright red color. Thomas's turned that way to, but more out of anger.

"We aren't dating! And gay people are cool!" Thomas defended weakly, although the two knew they might as well have been dating.

"Well you sure look like you're dating, sissy!" The man called out. He dropped his bottle of wine. It shattered on the ground and that was just about it for Alex.

He let out a cry.

Both Thomas and the man turned to look at Alex, however only one reacted positively. The drunk man just began to laugh, throwing glass shards at Alex. Thomas took his best friend's hand and hurried back to the apartment. Some broken glass pieces got stuck on his coat.

On the way back, Thomas could vaguely hear Alex's muffled whimpers.

"Hey, you okay?" He whispered.

"S-Sorry. The m-man reminded me of s-someone." Alex mumbled. The two both knew Alex was bisexual and had experienced more homophobic comments than most people having grown up on a not very accepting island.

"Here. Come on, let's get you inside." Thomas said, trying not to cry at the sight of Alex crying.

And so, the two got inside their house.

And the moment the door was closed behind them, Alex erupted into even more tears and tried to bury his face in his scarf. Calmly, Thomas took the scarf off and pulled Alex into a small hug.

"It's okay... Everything is okay..." He comforted the boy, playing with his curly hair and carefully taking the glass shards off of Alex's coat.

Then, he made a move that he never thought he would have the courage to do.

Thomas bent down to Alex's size, took his strong arms off the thin book, and kissed his plump lips.

Alex's crying quieted down and he looked up. His mouth was open, but in a pouting shape. His eyes were wide and his face was as red as Thomas had been earlier, when he yelled at the drunk man.

"You... kissed me."

"Mhm."

"You..." Alex, the pro writer he was, couldn't find the words for this situation. He was overwhelmed with such happiness and fluffiness.

"I love you, sweetheart. Oh my gosh, I love you so much."

Silence. They both stared at each other.

"I love you too."
