31. New bodyguard

POV Shawn 

A bit nervous I walk through the hallway of the building. Somewhere here must my good friend Ed Sheeran be. I walk after the woman from the reception. She's wearing a skirt and a blouse on top of it. The woman talks to me and makes jokes, but I'm too nervous to listen to it. I've a job interview with Kevin Myers any time now. Kevin Myers. Not many people will know him, but he is the bodyguard of Ed Sheeran at the moment, but I want him to work for me.

Geoff is great, but he never has time to go to his family and other friends because he has to constantly pay attention to me. That's why I decided to approach him when I heard Ed stops with his tours. The e-mail that he sent back sounded very enthusiastic, so I'm curious.

"Shawn, my man, what are you doing here?" Ed is already standing with his arms open and wants to give me a hug. "I've a job interview here man, how are you?" He laughed after our hug. "Yes, good, good. But a job interview? Are you here for Kevin?" He asks. Uncomfortable I pick my shirt and then just laugh innocently at Ed. Ed is my example. Partly because of him I started writing and singing songs. "Well actually yes."

"That's great man! I was already afraid that he would end up with some kind of fool." He gives me a nice pat again and then Kevin comes in. "Yo Kevin! Are you ready?" I ask him. He nods and then we quickly leave the room. I follow him after I say Ed goodbye. "Well that was uncomfortable." Kevin says then to break the ice. "Yes. Indeed." I laugh too.

"Okay, let's start with the job interview." I say when we sit on a table. "Why do you want to be my bodyguard? "He starts laughing and puts both hands on the table. "First of all you're Shawn Mendes! Everyone wants to be your bodyguard. But I'm leaving Ed 'cause he wants to stop touring when he's married. I think this work is great and I want to push it through." I nod and I feel intensely happy inside. I just feel how sincere this man is and I feel safe with him now. "What do you expect from it?"

"I'll travel a lot, especially with your tour coming, so I won't be home much. I've to protect you and I know from my experience with Ed that there are a lot of girls who could really love someone. Ed had a lot of that kind of fans, but you're completely different. You're young, handsome. Every girl wants to date you or want a picture with you. I'm just ready for a bigger challenge, man." It's so weird to hear him talk like that. I've met this guy before, when I met Ed. He was some kind of big bodyguard and he scared the shit out of me. And now he's zitting in front of me and feeling me that he's admiring me.

"You also have to be able to protect my wife and children," I say. I immediately feel a kind of tension in my body when I talk about this. "Maybe you heard what happened to Indy last month." The man nods and waits for my further explanation. "They're very important to me. Something like that can't happen again." He nods. "I promise you that I'll do my utmost to protect Indy and your child." I also nod and look at him very seriously once. "Sorry I'm not normal like now, but when it comes to the safety of Indy and my children, I'm very serious." He nods again. "Children?" He asks carefully. Oh yes. It is not yet public. "Indy is pregnant again, but we didn't tell anyone so keep it a secret please." He congratulates me and tells me immediately that he understands me. "They're safe with me."

"You're my man, Kevin." I shake hands with Kevin, my new bodyguard. "Welcome to the team."

A big smile appears on his face. "Serious? Thank you man! "I give him a hug and laugh. "Do you have the job?" Asks Ed when he runs inside. "Yes, I have it!" Ed and Kevin give each other a highfive. "Nice man. Then you are now officially discharged." He says laughing. "Finally. I was done with your music anyway." He jokes. "Asshole. Good luck with Shawn, he's a great boy."
