My next idea was a trip to the library. Ste was going to start preschool soon and he needed to get used to being in that kind of environment. Liam really didn't want us to go. He was in a quiet, private kind of mood but I was set on it.

"I'll buy him all the books he wants and you can read to him til ya can't speak."

"You don't need to buy them, but if you feel like spending you could donate."

"No! The point was not going."

"Come on."

"Nah I'll stay home with Nathan."

"He's coming with us." I told him.

I didn't want any more of having to separate them. It was easier to do things with Ste without Nathan being there but they were brothers, they were meant to grow up together whether it's convenient or not.

"Why? He can't read."

"It's good for him."

"All he does is eat, shit and sleep, what's he gonna get outta it?"

"He plays, he learns from everything, it's good for him."

"Can't they do us a private section?"

"No, they can't. How's Ste supposed to see other kids in a private room?"

"I'm really not arsed for fans today Stacy." he whined. "You don't get what it's like!"

"I just spent months believing everyone was staring at me, following me, talking about me, I have no idea."

"Sorry." he said sheepishly.

"Are ya coming or are we going on our own?"

"I'll go."

When we got there I saw Fiona working on reception and I marched straight up to her. I was so surprised. I never saw her outside of the bridesmaids meetings. "I didn't know you worked here."

"Yeah, I get sent around the libraries so I'm hard to catch."

"Oh that's why I've not seen you." I said as if I was a library regular, it was odd though that she'd be sent between Liverpool and Manchester council properties.

"Yep, did you need anything?"

"Oh, Liam wants a private room."

"Why?"

"He's breastfeeding the baby." I told her with a straight tone looking down at Nathan.

"Well we welcome breastfeeding in the children's section but if he's shy about it we could put him in a meeting room." she said somehow not bursting out laughing.

I nodded. "He's notoriously shy."

"I said I'll go with you lot, alright? And I'm not breastfeeding, I've not got tits." Liam responded mardily not liking being made the joke.

"Not got tits!" Ste repeated loudly.

"You're too old to be interested in them, come on let's find some books." I told him not wanting to tell him off and have two mardy Gallaghers in one library.

He was going to get himself into a lot of trouble if he kept saying those words in nursery. We needed to come up with a strategy to for keeping swearing at home or something. I really didn't mind him copying Liam, I was happy he was learning new words whatever they were but everyone else didn't feel the same way.

We went to the kids section. Liam needn't worry about fans, we were the only ones there. I gave Nathan to Liam and got Ste to find a book which seemed to involve looking though every stack. Eventually we were all sat together, having story time in peace.
